Question about rules! - Akumabito - 05-21-2008 ' Wrote:Against the spirit of the rules gets you sanctioned as hard if not harder than blatantly against the rules. That shows true malevolence, as opposed to just ignorance. There is no clear "spirit" of the rules, as much as there is "whim" in interpreting them or making up new, unwritten rules, which is one reason there is so much rules confusion and rules lawyering on the server. Rules sloppiness doesn't help the players, it does give the admins extra power of interpretation though so it won't be tightened or clarified anytime soon. Clearly using formation cruise to get a speed of 420 is not against the rules. I don't see how there is a "spirit" of the rules that is being violated either, there is a game function that is being utilized, that's all. It's no different really than using the z key to keep speed up and fire torps or weaps that is allowed, something that is more iffy in my mind because it doesn't work for every ship. Question about rules! - sovereign - 05-21-2008 Using engine kill to fire weapons while at cruise speed actually is against rules, FYI... This was actually a question not about using formation to get a speed of 420, but using that to repeatedly catch someone trying to run and continuing to beat them up. Its really not fun to have that done to you, although Virus pointed out a good point, you can only form up while grouped. Rules are here to make things better, not to be rules, so if someone abuses the letter of the rules they are just as guilty. Question about rules! - stone - 05-21-2008 ' Wrote:My question is... Why are you grouped with an enemy to allow him to do this? ... you misunderstood what I said, there were 2 of them chasing me one was staying in cruise right behind me the other was Zengine killing firring on me. Then reforming with his partner to catch up and do it again. Quite a clever tactic but i wanted to know if is legal or not. I guess until a Admin step in here and gives me some clearification I am going to assume that this is legal. ' Wrote:Rules are here to make things better, not to be rules, so if someone abuses the letter of the rules they are just as guilty. The rules are not here to be rules? That makes zero sense. The rules are sloppy and incomplete. As I said that hurts the player. It's not hard to define rules better, and doing so is better for the players. This is a good example, if it is illegal to use formation to cruise at 420 to either catch or evade, rather than to simply get into formation, everyone is served better if that is clearly stated in the rules. Not having clear rules is the reason for most of posting in this forum and most of the rules lawyering on the server. Question about rules! - sovereign - 05-22-2008 Sorry for being unclear- the rules are not here for the sole purpose of being rules. They are here to help people, so the intent wins over the letter. As for the rules being sloppy, take that up with Igiss. I'll see if I can find where someone said you couldn't e-kill at cruise on your way in to attack someone and then fire while still flying past at ~350, but I know it's been said. Question about rules! - AdamantineFist - 05-22-2008 What about for CDing? Is that illegal? That's what Akumabito was trying to convey. These unsaid rules are fine when all concerned parties are with the same viewpoint, but that's almost never the case. If 2 experienced people have an engagement they might not use this tactic, but if others choose to there is no way they'll get a sanction for that unless it's prohibited by the rules. As for the cruise and catch up, it's not in the rules. But if you engage, then you should not use the cruise first as that is considered fleeing, even if you were chasing the other party involved. Question about rules! - Aiinna - 05-22-2008 He was smuggling (I think) and ran, they caught up by following in cruise, one of them lagging behind to "catch up" then disengage the engine to fire from ~420 cruise speed (in order to catch up) I think its against the "spirit of the game" in the sense that everyone is capped at 350, the 420 is ONLY there to help keep groups together, not to catch up with someone fleeing. My opinion though Question about rules! - Akumabito - 05-22-2008 ' Wrote:That's what Akumabito was trying to convey. These unsaid rules are fine when all concerned parties are Exactly, the trader pirate rules aren't in the rules, when I first started I was very confused. I asked Fellow Hood for clarification in in game chat and was accused of "looking for loopholes" when all I wanted to know was what was the proper way to act within the rules. Wouldn't it be nice to have the trader/smuggler/pirate rules clearlly defined? Why aren't they? And the rules lawyering, for instance I was told ping ponging in a JH was sanctionable by a pirate, who was asking fo a couple mill at the same time he told me he could report me and have me sanctioned. So I looked, I searched, I can find no reference to ping ponging a JH in a trader to evade a pirate, or any sanction thread where someone was sanctioned for it. That's just one example of where someone not an admin has told me rules that might or might not be valid. It's confusing. To say this lack of clear rules helps players is simply incorrect. It creates uncertainty, stress, rules lawyers and confusion. |
