Petition to Save the Military ID - Ark - 11-21-2008

I don't find anything wrong with independent militaries. Intergalactic police yes, but the concept of a private army or miniature house is not offensive to me.

As far as the Cutters go, I support them because as I understand it, LPI has big time trouble stopping smugglers and various other offenders in large ships. They also sound like they genuinely want to RP, something New York could use a dose of.

And on Liberty's overpopulation- I expect that to spread out in the next version, at least after the Gallia exploration rush is over. Lots of people are just waiting for the new version, right?

Dellus Maximus Wrote:Alas the cutter service is Yet Another Liberty Faction. Which quite frankly the server doesn't need. Liberty would be better served with folks joining the LPI.

If I may be so bold, Sirrah Del, having been here a year and three months (give or take) as opposed to your 10 months, I myself haven't seen it abused hardly at all. Mostly its the Bounty Hunters taking the role of what potential Military ID abusers might be.

The LPI really doesn't exist anymore (save a few) and if people did join, they would no doubt see their predecessors and assume that to be the role of the faction: a comic relief. It is my opinion that this is what led to the faction's downfall.

So, really, the LC would mostly replace the LPI and work in correspondence with the dedicated LPI and the indies. This could work out positively with the LC being a mediator between the LN and the LPI, being technically neither, and not being the overbearing behemoth that is the LN yet at the same time not so... Unserious (again, save a few) as the LPI.

I'm sure many LPI indies and ex-members would probably sign up for the LC, thus not technically attracting attention from the other Houses and rebalancing the Liberty... Imbalance. (Between the LN and... Everyone else)

While I agree that we don't necessarily need another Liberty faction, I feel like this one has the potential to be something new and exciting if executed properly. Not your run of the mill, "Protect and serve. Pew. Pew. Halt." Actually... I dislike Liberty most of all. Mostly because of its monotony and repitition... In case that elaborates upon my enthusiasm to this idea.

... Why am I talking like this is my brain child?:$
Get in here, Hastings!

-Edit- Oh, right. So I showdered (yes, an extra D) and whatnot, and now I'm waiting for people to be home before bed... So... I guess it wasn't entirely true about my G'night statement.

Save the Military ID.

It has many uses and is good fit when paired with the right tag and RP. Fits Cooperate Escorts/Private Response forces better then Merc IDs.

Del, as much as i agree with your sentiment, do not forget that removing this id eliminates ANY small RP group, who may not fit in. Removing this id would LIMIT, not HELP, Roleplay. As a "Roleplay Server", i think it would be fairly hipocritical to remove a large rp choice. On the note of abuse, i personally have seen MANY more bhg id abuses than military. IF this is such a problem, perhaps simply move the military id out of liberty, to a border system. Let us not forget military id is a lawful id. I see it the same as Contractors for a government, not in military command, but must follow them. if done right, it is good rp. if not... then you get problems. Also, remember that the Mercenary id is much easyer gotten, which currently is almost identical, without the cargo scanning and whatnot. Zoner id is also abused, with traders going "i are zoner, u no tax k?" So, as much as i agree, the military id SHOULD BE KEPT. There will always be an abused id. if we remove this one, another will just take its place. It is inevitable.

Luna's comment sums up exactly what I think, and better than I could have put it. Well said!

I talk too much. Agreed.

What Luna says. *slaps self across face*

-Edit- Kay, NOW I'm going to bed. G'night. And behave thyselves, lest I shoot a rat up with Plague and infest him with tics in your neighborhood.

Unfortunately, I cannot participate in this skewed poll.

By adding an "Abstain" option to the poll, you've biased the survey quite well. Bravo.

Only the people who really care about the issue will vote, and since the people who really care about the issue are those who want to the Military ID to stay, you end up with massively large proportion of persons voting for the "Sign this Petition" option.

By adding an Abstain option, you're essentially equating Signing the petition to "Yes," and Abstaining to "No."

Here's how you need to fix this.

Talk to the admins, find a number for the amount of signatures needed for the petition to pass, and remove the "Abstain" option.

When the number of people who click on the "Sign this petition" option, say, 100, then the petition may be passed. Otherwise, this isn't a survey. This is a petition. Only one choice is required: "Sign this Petition."

Purposely misleading options not required.

Petition to Save the Military ID - Kuraine - 11-21-2008

I have edited the poll options in order to better reflect the question being asked. Now there is "I want to keep the ID", "I don't know" and "Get rid of it". Needless to say, I voted to remove it.

I know that RepEx's short lived private mercenary group Black Talon used the military ID for both escort work and a private military that wasn't for random hiring.

I dont see it being abused, but maybe changing the wording to "can only hunt smugglers under the direction and pay of a House Military ID" ??

edit: ha! my 1337 post. :D

On the one hand, it does seem like it could fit certain niches. On the other hand, it would seem, in a good deal of possible situations, alternate ID could easily cover. Between house military IDs, Vigilante IDs, Mercenary IDs, and the possible special ops ID (right?), it seems the vast majority of situations would be covered.
