Just the idea of a peaceful people having OP carriers and stuff is just odd to me. That's sort of correct. While I wouldn't say Zoners aren't peaceful - as they are, as they keep at least neutrality to everyone and their mother - they have chosen a life far outside the house enforcers. Where Zoners go, there are no Overlord, Dunkirks or Bismarcks to give cover. Where Zoners go, there are nomads, ex-laws and uncivilizated people. They need ships like the Fearless and the Aquilon to delve deeper into the wilds and to enforce the Freeport NFZ regulations. However, those ships are simply and only meant for defensive approaches, not to wage wars, which is my biggest problem with the current situation, as, no matter how nice it is to see three Nephilims guarding Freeport 11, it's complete garbage. Especially the Nephilim. If it was Aquilons and Fearless, who would mind it, but the Nephilim is a mobile freeport, a colony ship. Not a ship you dispatch against other fleets. It'S weaponry is completely only for defensive purposes. See it as a mobile Babylon 5 or Deep Space Nine, not like a Battlestar Galactica or Home One. RE: Nephilim discussion - Arioch - 01-18-2017 + 1 Sombra. I heavily dislike the use of Nephilims for offensive purposes without any regard to the lore or hell, RP to show that a Nephilim was retrofitted to be more offensive (but then we get into the whole "How expensive they are inRP and how rare they are supposed to be, so why convert such a rare colony ship to make it offensive...) Anyway, yes - Carrier/Qships would be a better sight to see. Matches the lore better. Hence why I'd be in favor of seeing Colony ships restricted to Official factions or SRP. Not to punish the indies, but more to match the lore/RP behind them. They're rare. They're expensive. They're mobile freeports. They shouldn't be used for offensive actions. RE: Nephilim discussion - Freeroamer - 01-18-2017 Again, The 21 turrets of neutrality comes into play here... RE: Nephilim discussion - NonSequitor - 03-08-2017 As a long time Zoner player, I've never really understood the need for any Zoner cap above the destroyer in Zoner lore. The Nephilim is a huuuge, ungainly target. It's also a poor exploration vessel that takes a month of Sundays to traverse an asteroid field. The Carrier is garbage PvP-wise, due to secondary turret arcs and sluggish turning. The ideal scenario, in my highly-biased opinion, would be to nix the Neph (or convert it into a de-militarized research and colonization vessel) and the carrier, while giving the destroyer and gunboat a powercore buff, 1,8 mil and 500k respectively. RE: Nephilim discussion - Sombs - 03-08-2017 Space is dangerous. Especially the Edge Worlds. Of course they need big ships to be able to sustain themselves far off in the distance, and the Aquilon is the only logical answer to the nomad thread and the guy that try to exploit the Zoners. The Nephilim however is an too-hard-to-roleplay concept. It shouldn't be an offensive warship, but a bastion of defense to protect the many people that colonize it. Defensive, is okay, but having Nephilims roam around and be like "shootey, shoot!" is simply dense. If you ask me, the Nephilim should not be able to leave the Omicrons and Omegas and should not be allowed to use nomad gates/lanes per ID. I cringe every time I see a Nephilim roaming around in the Nomicrons. However, with the Irra now available to indies, we finally have something to deal with lolwuts. If someone wants to play a reasonable Nephilim, they should simply SRP it. As it is, converting these to 'demilitarized' would be a bit counterproductive for the Nephilim, as the Neph infocard stated that it was originally the Leviathan... a massive Guardship. I cringe every time I see a Nephilim roaming around in the Nomicrons. I think there needs to be a change to that line, as I could see a Nephilim in the Taus or Sigmas or whatnot. Keeping them in the Nomicrons would just be restricting another faction of the area (read: Order/Core caps, Nomads) Perhaps have the Intel faction line added 'When flying [cruiser/battleship] in [in this case, House Space, or, in system with Jumpgate], can only attack in self defense.' While that line shouldn't need to be added, it could help. Honestly though? It's been awhile from my Last Nephilim sighting (besides my own (I demand RP)) and I am starting to think the Nephilim hype is starting to taper off, which is a good thing. Leave only one or two active within the next few weeks, makes them seem rare again. Sombra why do you have to be so mean to my Neph *cri* the ORIZON|Uzed/Exodus/Last_Dawn didn't mean to make an cringe. RE: Nephilim discussion - HanCloudstone - 03-08-2017 Well, here's my two cents. The only way people use these ships is for Nomad farming missions in Delta. Off-hours player out. RE: Nephilim discussion - Sombs - 03-08-2017 The Conference Gunboat and the Fearless Q-Ship are okay the way they are. Even I was able to fend off some pew-horny guys with both of the ships. The Aquilon isn't that bad. It's just easy to hit and doesn't have the best evasive stats. Which is pretty fine. The Aquilon doesn't need to be touched in any way, if you ask me. The Lolwuts ignore the Aquilon anyways and directly go for "Boah, that's the biggest ship you can get!" Nephilim. But yeah, you're right, Inferno. After all, TAZ is a thing, too. And the Freeports in the Taus. And their klingon administrator. Simply reduce Nephilim-access to Sigmas, Taus, Omicrons, Omegas and do not allow them to use nomad gates. The Fearless' heavy hardpoints have problematic firing arcs. It wasn't a gamebreaker before the latest patch, since you could place either razors or cerbs on the port and starboard. Now, if you want to take on other caps, you need a light mortar. The Fearless can use one LM, so you've got it on the left or right, making aiming a pain in the tuckus. If the LM could be placed on the front topside hardpoint it would be golden. The Aquilon is a gorgeous vessel, but since it's a carrier, it's turning and strafing are lackluster. It also catches every fourth asteroid on its "wings". Fortunately I tried it out on single player before buying it. |
