Yes.

Same question as Lancer but in reverse. If I'm in cruise trying to get away and my pursuers are hot on my tail (even though I'm attempting to leave the fight) can I kill engines and turn guns on my pursuer and kill him? After all, I'm attempting to get away but the other guy just won't leave me be.

EDIT: We are both traveling in a straight line. No turning back to engage. Just killing engines, coasting and going to turret view (say in a gunboat).

according to rules, no

Yes... Where did you see that, Commodore?

You engine killing to fire on your pursuers is fine in my opinion. You do put yourself at risk by doing so, but if you can't shake 'em, take a shot. They're following you with the hopes of disrupting you so they obviously want to continue the fight. If you cruise away with the intention of running (and not coming back) and they follow you through 4 systems and you finally engine kill to fire off a shot...they shouldn't scream 'SHEILD RUNNER!!!!!!11!!!!1!!1!" Makes no sense cause their shields have come back too.

And to tell you the truth, it's really, really hard to decipher sceenshots of shield running. You don't know if the player was being chased, how long the chase went on, etc.

I think shield running is when a player goes off, is not pursued and then player returns to the sight of the fight.

Im just saying, if you fire at someone deliberatly trying to destroy them, it counts as PvP. And you cant use engine kill and cruise in PvP unless your chasing someone, because your basicly trying to stop them. but if you are engine killing, then your trying to attack them, but it doesnt count as being chased if your both firing at each other(I think). I dont really know much about this stuff because im not very active on the server, so...

That sounds like a fine defenation of shield running.

In my opinion, when someone shoots back at their pursuer, its not usually an attempt to restart the PVP, but to lose their pursuer and escape completely. They are trying to kill the person, or hurt him enough that he doesn't engage for long enough that the person can start his cruise up again and get away.

This is absurd Commodore... And its totally one-sided. If I'm being pursued and you kill engines to attempt to kill me, I have every right to defend myself in the SAME fashion. Its not my fault you continued the pursuit. And as long as you continue the pursuit, I have EVERY right to defend myself. If you disengage and I return, then you can call it shield running.

Thanks Dab... In this case, the pursuer forfeits this rule since he/she is continuing the PVP role. So long as the pursuer continues to give chase to someone attempting to escape, there is no shield running and rejoining combat is legal to the extent the person being chased can get away. If the pursuer dies as a result, the objective of the fleeing person is achieved.

Commodore... if he runs, let him go. If he returns, file a grievance. Chasing him to kill him and him not being allowed to defend himself means you're looking for a free kill (read: PVP whoring). If you continue to chase, don't complain if he kills his engines, turns your hull inside out and goes about his merry way.

Is this ruling still in affect? And if it is, can we get it moved to the actual rules or psoted to where it can be seen regularly if nto already. I mean i ahd to do a search through the whole forums to find this.
