If they don't want to rp, there are other non-rp servers in the server list. How hard is it to click another server?

Also, if your trade run is boring, you're doing it wrong.

It's not always bad.

We all have bad days. We don't feel like doing much, and just run a few trade runs. Sometimes there's an opening for RP and we either don't notice it it, or just can't be arsed. These are the days that a corsair pirate in california ends up sanctioned or //d. We just get tired of it all... I think we are all permitted, to have one or two bad days.

And then, some days are good. A few days ago, I set out to patrol the asteroid fields, and chase smugglers on my cop. After a few fruitless scans and hellos to the locals, I head towards the Penny jumphole, and out of it, right in front of my nose drops an outcast smuggler. Oh goodie!

I jump on top of him like a bunny on carrots, quoting liberty penal code paragraphs, demanding release of the slaves, and fining the amount required by law (4 mil). Of course this doesn't go over well (the laws are so harsh on a player, even though they make sense in character - always be ready to bargain!). The discussion starts: How are the slaves going to be delivered to safety, can the fine be lowered, etc. In the end I like to think we almost came to an accord: fine lowered to 2 million as it's a first offence and slaves to be escorted to Cali Minor. (Money back for he slaves, and just 2 mil fine. That's a nicer deal to get, from a trader's point of view. Still a bit steep, but he IS a criminal, not a trader.:)) It probably took 15 minutes, but heck, RP doesn't hurt anyone... Of course - that's when the other two transports dropped in and it all turned rather hostile for a while - and in the end we reached another agreement: I go away, or I die. I think the whole thing must have taken 20-30 minutes, and in the end there was one trader and a police ship being sent to the scrap heaps. ( I suck at combat. ) It's nice when things like this happen... I can't remember who the smuggler was, but man, I wish I had remembered to drop him some kudos in the thread...

I wish all days were like that, all the time. Though... we can't all be perfect, every day. Lack of RP is understandable - just as long as we don't take out our frustrations on other players through badly founded pvp, we'll be fine.

Maybe we should enforce the fact that Disco is an English only server, a concept will be that every character in game have to be registered with an account on the forums, if not = insta-delete. An registration on the forums in turn need to be slightly altered to include a little 'English Test' to make sure the player speaks functional English and knows about RP.

This I think is a good method of decreasing amount of non-English speakers on the server, please comment.

I don't think disco's rp is in decline at all. I think its at turning point where game will become more structured.
The current situation where more tradeflow has been transferred to the Houses instead in outer worlds might push some people away, but that is just temporary situation.

with the influx of house corporations and traders in the house systems instead of in borderworlds, the piracy situation in said houses will decline. Especially in liberty, when the solo pirates realize they won't be able to actually pull anything alone against convoys of traders. The new system of things will actually get people closer together because they will have trouble in making it alone. (why you figure out yourself)
but on the single example of the trader convoy actually pulling trough liberty, lone bomber will be no match for them, causing him to flee constantly and by fleeing, being 4 hours out of piracy zone. That will cause a pirate to seek out other pirates, forming the already existing pirate factions (LR, Bucaneers, Mollys, Hessians etc)

With this happening closer sense of belonging will happen, good guidance within trader corporations will teach those new lone traders how to succseed and how to rp properly. The "lol" will actually have to adapt to the policies of the corporations or factions or perish alone. or be very very bored.
for those not interested in factions, the ability of escorts (that will be more requested now) will be avaliable and mercenarys will grow in numbers (just wait, i promise).

With this happening, alot of things will drain from the borderworlds and edge worlds, causing more opportunities for hardcore traders / smugglers that will then again run into outcasts / corsairs and others.
zoners will finally become hardcore and hard work.

As it's hard to actually make it alone in the real world, so will it be in the space.
Arguments that game should be fun, not work is invalid here.
sorry but if you want a pure fun game where you actually have complete control, try single player. its called single for a reason. Multiplayer automatically means other people are there, and game suddenly turns more real. Yes, while you cannot die, you are still interacting with other humans behind their screens. That means that something is deffinatley real there. It's worth to connect with others and find out what is it actually.

As other things that you do alone in the room while staring at monitor, it is more fun when finding another person to do it with. Group up, and manage to make it work and breach out above the line of those that didn't manage to make it work. You'll feel alot better when you actually pull it off.

wall of text mkII.

Can we haz a Local Chat button in between group and system please ?

Rp Declining? More lolwuts? - chovynz - 10-10-2009

I don't think Disco's RP is failing.

I think people's creativity is failing.

When people get overwhelmed, or tired or reactive, their creativity goes down the tubes.

Simple answer is get off the internets, and out into RL. Get space to think and plan. Then come back all Creative guns blazing.

TS idea is good. but imagine just 3 `parties` rp-ing in the same system in local chat, on different locations. now, when these 3 parties all chat in system chat, you have a constant wall of text spamming. not only highly annoying, but you also miss things your `rp-partner` said.

but some rp things, can be said in system chat. I like to blab on my trader about docking and launching etc. just small things that show some rp, without creating a wall of text for everyone in the system.

There is NO non RP server. In fact there is NO other server which is consistently populated with more than 10 people. why? Cos everyone has come here. Just ask around. I help newbs out (back when I was more active anyway) and talk to lots of em, so can't say my stats are completely bulls*** either.

Rp Declining? More lolwuts? - Coin - 10-22-2009

The cure is to hang out in penn, and introduce the newbs to RP ness. its kinda draining but its good for their souls
