I think you missed my point.

The fact the id will allow it means it can be done. If it is difficult or not, it does not really matter. ID allows it get ready for alot of Mercs and Freelancers at your door step. Not much you can do about whats allowed on a ID.

Just because the ID allows it, doesn't mean the official server Faction for that vessel will. So if a Freelancer gets a lbby GB, and it hasn't been OK'ed by forum RP by the Liberty Navy, you can expect that they will hunt you down to reposses the stolen ship. Same goes for Corsais, Outcasts, BHG, Order, and probably any other faction which has an official server faction.

They have always been allowed, and it hasn't gotten out of hand. Don't forget the equipment-use tech chart, it still applies. Not only will a faction kill you for using their stuff without permission/a good reason, but you could have it confiscated for violating the tech-use chart.

Also, comparing civilian ships to cars, or even humvees, is quite silly. Civilian ships are still warships, and some of them are better than military or pirate equivalents.

It's silly to limit all Freelancers/Mercenaries to civilian equipment because there's a lot of potential exceptions. What about a Merc with a long-standing contract with a particular faction, who is granted the right to use that faction's ships? Or someone who was born a Corsair, still is a Corsair, but works as an unlawful Mercenary in the Omicrons/Omegas rather than as a pirate? Maybe a faction just doesn't care if a neutral party uses one of their ships as long as they pay them for the right?

Yeah, OORP ships everywhere. Just like there was before that change.

... wait a second... my Outcasts never got attacked by freelancers with Outcast gear before the change... (Sabres don't count, though those never came after me either)... same for my Junker... and my old BHG...
