Umm... A handy-dandy little LCD screen in your cockpit?... But I guess you have a point... Since its the helmet... Hmm... Well, the police seem fine not wearing one... Maybe the helmet on the character is a fuzzy-dice type of thing in the shape of a head... Right over the characters head and they don't actually wear one...

... Yes...

My helmet has Mr. Potatohead accessories. Smiles. Frowns. Crazy-ass eye brows. The works!

Well yes, fighter pilots are seen using helmets... But capital ships and stations don't, so may some. In any case it just doesn't matter, what matters is that smileys can be used as a facial expression interpretation, and why not? It's not like everyone always says everything monotonous dead, and that's not RP, it's overkill. If there is a problem it's not the smileys, it's the excessive usage of those, but smiles themselves aren't to blame and should not be considered oorp just because of that, otherwise it's abusive sanctioning lacking common sense.

I don't use smileys but I'm not against others using them within the context. And I never report anyone for it unless it goes completely oorp. I like Discovery, so let's not turn it into rat battlefield where it's not RP and PvP that matters but reporting on each other, as I've seen a great deal of that kind of behavior lately. /shakes-head /sad-panda-mode

Hello guys!:)

Quote:Why not? The people in any social setting that deserve the greatest scrutiny are the people who are enforcing the rules. If they enforce good rules consistently then things run smoothly. If they lapse in judgement things go to Hell. And the only feedback they get on what kind of job they're doing for us is our cheers and jeers. Based on the number of replies to sanctions saying "Yay! Burn Tau-31 to the ground!" it seems they're doing a good job overall smile.gif

Well, my point is, I've already expressed that I didn't approve some of the sanctions in some threads, so as I've already did it I think there was no need to start one thread to say *again* my opinion about the admins actions. But yes, let me say I approve like 80%-90% of the sanctions but a few ones I think too excessive and abusive.

Quote:I think there was more to the incident than just "hehe"... that was just the culmination of a bunch of OORP activity by that person.

After reading the member opinions of this thread, certainly yes!;)

Quote:But it's all starting to sound like my swearing thread.... people are getting concerned that behaviour that would be considered reasonable and acceptable, is gonna be punished swiftly and without recourse. No matter if you have $3m or $300m, it'll all be taken away.

Yes that's exactly my feeling. Specially that I've already said on my welcome section that the rules need to be a little more clear about some things...

Quote:And no the admins aren't infallible... they are human (last time I checked). The current clampdown seems harsh to, but unfortunately with the recent rash of idiots, harsh measures are called for. So yes things are touchy at the mo.

Yup that's my opinion too. No question that they need to make harsh measures, but it makes some people afraid of doing anything to break the rules, specially someone new to the server, even having 4-5 years of RP experience in another games.

As for the overall smileys, some people do use helmets and yes it becomes tougher to see their expression. So, I STILL think that the tone of the voice is what most counts to see if someone is happy or angry. BUT...anyway I completely agree with:

It's NOT that only because I'm against smileys that I will think that people using smileys are out-of-RP and need to be reported. This is a "fine-tune" and frankly yes RP needs to be a little flexible. Just like someone may think it's out-of-rp to use *smiling* instead of:D. It doesn't mean that only because I do not agree with the idea I'm going to OOC lecture or report someone...it would be a very stupid reason to!;)

Yup...as for the original idea of the post, the conclusions we can get is:

1. In the sanction case, the player did much more than just saying "hehehe" and he was not banned because of the "hehehe"

2. It's allowed to say "hehehe"

As I said, there may be some people (like me for ex.:P) who are afraid of breaking rules so who will ask some very basic and stupid questions.

But overall...yes I agree that admins are doing a good job and that harsh measures are needed...just don't blame me for asking if "hehehe" is right or not!:P

Thanks to everyone who expressed their opinions on this thread! I can breath in more relief now...:)
