Sins of a Solar Empire - Dab - 03-07-2008 ' Wrote:I just don't play the game Online(for the moment), I will wait for the next patch, Cause there is a major Balancing issue in it....True, that does need balanced (especially the siege-ship spam), but there is a multitude of tactics that can stop it. Also, spamming combat ships to kill enemy fleets, also possible to stop. If they have 30 missile frigates and you have 30 of any ship, you can easily kill them. Same for if they had 30 Cobalts, or Siege Frigs. True, you'll take a beating, but you can destroy their entire fleet. Heck, I took out a pirate den when they had 75 normal frigs (equivilant of the Cobalts) 35 missile frigs, 30 of the stronger normal frigs, and 45 others, mixed types. I had around 50 ships, and 3 capitals. I lost around 35 ships and none of my capitals (not one even lost its shield) and killed all the defenses and capped the base.. In almost any game (minus Starcraft and Warcraft III) you can defeat a large ship/unit spam using tactics, you just have to take into account your ship's strength's and their weaknesses, and use ships based on those calculations. For example, Cobalts are fast, but have very short range. LRM Missile Frigates have very long range and medium speed. Therefor, when they attack with around 50 Cobalts and you have a smaller group of LRMs [lets say 20], you move into 4 seperate 'groups.' 1 group directly ahead of them, but at a decent range, one on each side at a longer range, then another by one of those sides. Once they attack you move that 4th group behind them. Now, whichever group they attack, after its dead, they have to move a long distance to attack the others. This allows your groups to all continue firing at all times, while they cannot. While the battle continues you can keep splitting those groups as your bigger ones die, so they must travel even more to get in range while you just relentlessly attack over and over. There are many such strategies, and some very useful ones that involve capitals that you can use against unit spam, you just have to find them and practice them. Sins of a Solar Empire - Reise - 03-07-2008 Spam often will retreat when you send a couple level 8 or 9 capital ships. They might siege your planet for a bit but if you have the right defense up they won't be able to escape before they're all wiped out. The Vasari and Advent have ships that cover more general roles too, so that might be a reason things seem unbalanced. Sins of a Solar Empire - Caedes - 03-15-2008 It's not the best game I have ever played, but it's definitely top 10 (and I have played an unhealthy amount of games). The only major downside is the multiplayer/network crashes. As I don't allow the internet near my gaming computer, I just play LAN with my brother, our computers can handle it flawlessly but the game seems to crash itself when the ship count (of all NPCs + humans) reaches about 12000, no matter how big or small the map. It's probably the fact that we always play on the biggest maps (5+ star systems and about 200 planets) which means there are thousands of trade and refinery ships clogging up the solar system. It's fine on singleplayer though but the NPCs are stupid in several ways, black market, bounties, diplomacy and some of their strategies are ridiculous. But with all the updates being released and how moddable the game is, it's still a very good game. Sins of a Solar Empire - EverBlue - 03-27-2008 I love it. The only thing I dislike, is lack of an actual Storyline driven single player campaign... The opening cinematic mentions one, and so does the manual. But that's it. You just start playing. Quite annoying, because things mentioned in the manual seemed pretty damn cool. I really wanted to know what was chasing the Vasari... Sins of a Solar Empire - The Pirate - 03-27-2008 The problem with he game crashing and such is a flaw in the Dump Script in the game which means it takes up more and more and more RAM without cleaning them its a bug they have yet too fix but other then that its a pretty cool game i espeacially like TEC with their makeshift vessels. In my opinion the Advent are a pale imitation of the Aeon from Surpreme Commander and i just dont like them periode. the Vasari however are actually quite entertaining to play and their background is rather unique.:D But TEC is my all time Favorit because they are HUMANS!:yahoo: THATS WHY! and because they prove that HUMANS!:yahoo: can kick the living crap out of all the Alien Scum of the universe ohh and because their ships are cool and the way their economy works.:D Sins of a Solar Empire - Reverend Del - 03-27-2008 It's not that great. There I said it and I'm not taking it back. Don't get me wrong it's not a bad game, it's just not that great. I suppose you'd like my reasoning? Okay then, it's not great because it's not revolutionary, it doesn't bring anything to the table we haven't seen before, in terms of gameplay, it doesn't do anything better thatn has been done before, it doesn't have that spark that makes a truly great game. I've had people raving at me about how it looks so good and how they can have huge fleets, and I think "Where's the story?". Computer games have to have story, plot, drive, anything you want to call it that engages my brain and makes me think. Lack of a single player is, for me, a critical flaw, also it leads me to think perhaps the designers spent too much time making the ships look pretty and forgot to do some actual storyline work. Not a stellar moment for them. Then there comes my biggest beef, the one thing that gets me, it's a space combat RTS, set in space, where you fly through space, and shoot things in space, and it's all done on a 2D field, ocassional using 3D to move over planets, but you have no control over that. So it's a 2D space based RTS... It's average, it's unfinished. At least for me. Sins of a Solar Empire - The Pirate - 03-28-2008 :angry2: ' Wrote:It's not that great. DONT MAKE JUDGEMENTS IF YOU HAVNT TRIED IT PERIODE! So what if its a 2D Map with 3D ships and planets BIG DEAL! and the point of theres no story well there kinda is one if you watch the Intro although i admit the Intro is kinda building up too a single player campaign which isnt there. and yes its not revelutionary and so f***king what games are perfect No game is perfect there will always be some pessimistic Nobodies that want too rack the game down :angry2::angry2::angry2: (Censored Comment) Sins of a Solar Empire - Reverend Del - 03-28-2008 ' Wrote::angry2:I own it. I've played it. I've grown bored of it very quickly. I have watched the intro and I though woot! this looks good, then they let me down by not following up. You don't see a problem with the lack of 3D in a modern space based RTS? I do. I'm not just saying this game isn't perfect, I'm also saying it's not that good. It's pretty enough (high end graphics card, runs on max detail before you try and accuse me of having the graphics on low settings) but it has some crippling flaws. Lack of singleplayer campaign being the most obvious. Sins of a Solar Empire - The Pirate - 03-28-2008 I somehoe dont think its designed too have a campaign like Sword of the Stars I think its been made too encourage Multiplayer alot more but Meh maye thats just me. At any rate its a good game and i like it so people can what ever the hell damn pleases them. And the reason for the 2D space must have been the fact that Homeworld 1-2 has 3D space and the human brain have a Sevearely difficult time analyzing and thing on a 3D map And i have often seen other games try the 3D Map Thing with no success so my thoughts would be that Sins of a Solar empire is made too be VERY user friendly...too the point where a Retard could play it i guess. Sins of a Solar Empire - Reverend Del - 03-28-2008 ' Wrote:I somehoe dont think its designed too have a campaign like Sword of the StarsIf there is no intention of a singleplayer campaign why have a story based intro? Why not just ingame cutscenes of people smacking the bejeesus out of each other which is what this boils down to. Yes it's user friendly, it's very easy to pick up and play, that's one of the reasons it doesn't fall flat on it's face, yes there is some strategy involved in smacking the bejeesus out of your opponents and again another reason that it doesn't just fail. But that aside, it's not the second coming of christ, it's just not that great. It's a solid, average RTS. Yes, I can do whatever the hell I please, when it comes to computer games, further to that I am entitled to my own opinion. In the future I'd suggest you remember that when someone offers an opinion different to your own. |
