Hypothetical Scenario: Pirating for cash is no longer done - tansytansey - 09-08-2009

A lot of changes to commodities sold on pirate bases would have to take place. Right now only very few cargo hauls are worth stealing, Neon is worthless to Rogues yet we have thousands of units drawn through California every day. About the only things worthwhile are contraband or fuel and arms, but very few people haul those.

Um what? Get a junker and sell it to him. It encourages player interaction.
Also there's tons of neons passing trough NY every day, something must be coming back. It's like we don't pirate the alien organisms, but we know something will be back trough omegas.

things don't need revamping because of that, you just need to cooperate more with others.

Also, Andre... Cargo piracy worthless...
That's the weirdest thing I've read here.

I don't think he ever sold a cargo full of nuclear devices

Difference is, cargo piracy is more opportunity pirating than credit pirating. You only rob the transports that are worth something. Which isn't a lot of them for the Rogues at least. I've pirated Artifact smugglers in the past, but we can't really touch Blood Diamond and Cardamine transports, which doesn't leave a whole lot of stuff to sell. We do take Deuterium and sell it on the Freeport though, but it would be better if Rogue bases payed more for things, even if it was just 600-800 credits instead of 100.

But, cargo piracy does make a bit more sense than credit piracy in some ways. I can see traders offering bribes to Pirates to let them keep their cargo, though.

Why can't you pirate a Cardamine and blood diamonds transport? :/
Some rules I'm unaware of?

Well it depends, really. It's more of a rule of conduct, but there is also this clause in most unlawful IDs:
Quote:Can demand credits or cargo from traders and unallied smugglers or factions
But generally, any one bringing Cardamine and Blood Diamonds are supplying our bases. And the saying goes, don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Unless of course you're a Corsair, cause in that case the hand its self is the meal. xD

Well, if a junker is carrying a shipment of cardamine, you priate him and take that cardamine to the same base, i dont see why would outcast be upset.

5000 units have been bought on Malta and carried away to ship to Manhattan. Ship gets pirated in half way for 1500 cargo, and continues on his way with 3500 cargo. Sells them on Manhattan, and Manhattan is 1500 cardi short. In comes the pirate with 1500 and sells it. Manhattan has the cargo, Malta shouldn't even care!

Dunno what to say tbh, people need the money, threats like "We'll never trade here again!" don't work. Trust me.
So apparently Omegas trades have dropped and noone is trading there anymore.
What a lie.
We have about 500% more food shipments (so its 5 instead of 1:D)
We have lost some powertraders, but they all come back.

To sum it up:
Treat pirates like scum, they deserve it in every part of sirius
Treat traders like traders and smugglers like smugglers.

Maybe I'm wrong but arent liberty rogues not so united and organized?
Can't you pirate a LR or tax him if you're a LR too?
Especially indies vs indies.
NY is big enough to have power struggles etc

It's in the ID. It's probably in yours too, if you read it.
Junkers and Rogues are closet allies, we're not going to pirate them unless they're blatantly a power trader trying to abuse the Junker reputation. Rogues control the Cardamine buisness in Liberty, so even if the Junker sells it to the dealer, the Rogues make all the profit selling it to the users. Grower > Supplier > Dealer > Consumer. Dealers make far more credit than suppliers and growers. Even though those credits don't exist in game, they exist in-RP. Sure, the Rogues could just eliminate the middle-man and get more profit for themselves, but,

"About 50% of the human race is middle-men and they don't take kindly to being eliminated."

Pirating Artifact smugglers is good stuff, though. xD

Hey no hard feelings, I'm just giving my thoughts on this. Sorry, but it seems I would have to spend more time in Liberty to actually learn. From what I saw while i was there with a Casino ship, Liberty deffinatley needs more lawfuls. Lane hacker gunboat and LR bomber 3k from manhatan shooting down lanes and harassing traders for cash.

Junkers and zoners just whooshing into Manhattan with Cardamine, noone stopping them.
Problem is too many unlawful organizations ganged up with smugglers.
Cargo piracy only would solve alot of issues there.
Another proposal of mine would be actual confiscating of the smuggled goods by the police.

Why is that you ask?
Well, for RP reason, goods like those should not be destroyed in space, they should be brought as a evidence, they should be destroyed in controlled environment.

For oorp reason, all those light fighters, bombers, gunboats and other police officers would have more motivation to work since they would actually receive an nice cash boost for every batch of cardamine police hauls back to Manhattan.
Why do people expect that police would work for peanuts i have no idea.
