Well i just imagine, that Tag is a Flag and Id are the papers... obviusly waving a pirate flag is suspicious, but people wear Osama Bin Laden shirts allower the world, and don't get prosecuted... becouse their papers and records clai'm they're not really terorists... so if your ID states you're a trader, you should be safe. But!
In the real world sometimes you get attacked just becouse you are of a surten nationality (or even becouse you look like you are) a patrol in downtown Baghdad might not take time to browse through your papers but rather take you at gunpoint simply becouse you look like the kind of person who "might" have a bomb ticking in his vest... There fore if you get shot becouse of your tag you shouldn't be supprised... You have to be very weary in the far distances of Sirius, and if a BH battlecruisers comes up your behind, you'd better not be quick docking...

Yes, I write long posts, yes I read yours, so gimme a little break here by reading mine.
Example 1.
Zoner ID - No zoner tag. - Hello mister zoner but not Zoner. How are you today? Whats that? You're neutral because you're a zoner? Nope, actually if you get anymore cocky you're dead. Zoners are neutral, zoners aren't.
Example 2.
Corsair ID - Police tag. - Well whop dee doo there spy. What? You're not a spy? where's your tag? You don't have it? Where did ID come from? Crete? Hardly... Off you go, you have 1 hour to get the tag.
Example 3.
Trader ID - outcast tag in corsair space - What?? You're getting shot down to 2% hull after 3 seconds and then demanded all the cargo and some money for being so ignorant or cocky.
Tags are really really important, and they ARE indeed long range ID's. They are not screwed up, if you're an liberty rogue and you see a police tag as a white there's something wrong with you not with him.
Traders be careful where you trade to and from.
If you ask me you'ld all have a specialized ID's that belong to one nation, no neutrals. Or yes neutrals so they can be shot by all. But it would eliminate the Sigma 13 trade and they'ld make sure people manage their reps just right.
