Police, smuggling and alike - timmychen - 07-23-2008 If you're an unlawful, stop complaining about lawfuls killing you. Really now. It's their job. When rogues and outcasts storm Manhattan with their gunships and destroyers, they don't hesitate to blow up any lawful they see. It's how the game works. If you're not enjoying yourself, learn to travel in groups, and take down caps in groups. It's really not that hard. Smugglers that trade in part commodities, part contraband, kudos to you. I haven't encountered many, but most of the time, I'll let you pass after some chatter. I encourage other lawfuls to do the same too. I've said this once and I've said this again, if you've got a complaint, back it up with proof. Screenshots, videos, whatever. So far, I've seen nothing. Though yeah, sometimes trigger happy indie caps will engage without a word.. it's not against the rules, and you certainly should've been smarter. Also, don't even bother comparing the Navy/LPI/LSF to real life cops. 'Realistically', your ship wouldn't even have weapons (how many people on the street have guns on them?), and the lawful force would also have such things as tazers, cuffs, and the ability to lock you away for a long, long time. Oh, and overwhelming numbers too. No one really 'dies' in Freelancer, otherwise we'd have to delete our characters every time he/she/it dies. So when you blow up a smuggler's ship, you're not really killing him. More like disabling the vehicle so you can board, arrest its crew, and stick them in prison. And even then, they wouldn't be able to get out for a while. Canasius, don't even start on "OORP" when you have a trader that supposedly trades for the Dragons by hualing diamonds/niobium through Chugoku and Hokkaido. Police, smuggling and alike - Mere_Mortal - 07-23-2008 ' Wrote:so you just admitted to being a PVP whore than you very much I respect you more for admiting it. Now lets see if we can get the rest of them to.Once again you're taking the matter out of context. If you're going to accuse me of being a "PvP Whore", then why are you playing what is partly a FPS game? You did portray a classic example of this in a Battle Cruiser killing a fighter, but I'm talking about using relevant means to deal with crime. Unfortunately, where there is crime there are guns, subsequently people are going to get shot. Don't start labelling people as playing outside the purpose of the Discovery Server just because they are killing another due to their role. You are just trying to get the thread off topic this is not about OORP things this is a bout Lack of RP so if you want to attack me personally do it im PM or open another thread. Police, smuggling and alike - Zero755 - 07-23-2008 So now that we are all sort of back on topic, the question is how do we fix something that has gone so horribly wrong? My idea, make your starting location selectable as a client option for the server. (if that is possible) That way the noobs are dispersed through out Sirius, not just localized in NY Police, smuggling and alike - timmychen - 07-23-2008 ' Wrote:So now that we are all sort of back on topic, the question is how do we fix something that has gone so horribly wrong? Won't happen unless Discovery SP is abandoned (or made into a separate mod) Also, this doesn't solve the problem much, rather, it disperses the capwhores among the houses. Soon we'll be seeing a lot of indie Rheinland Cruisers instead of Liberty cruisers. Police, smuggling and alike - Zero755 - 07-23-2008 True in some regards, and untrue in others. All of the major activity (OORP Capwhores PvP Whores) happens in and around NY. Now im not saying ALL of it happens in NY. I have seen it all over Sirius. Im saying that the majority of it happens in NY. My main thought path is: Generally in the major faction systems there is a much heavier weight put on proper RP Alpha: 101st, Ros, BLS, SOB Gamma: TBH, Beneitz Bretonia: QCF, QCR, BPA Kusari: KNF Reinland: RM, RFP Omicron Minor BS| I could go on, but the point is if we dispersed the noobs they would be exposed to a much better example of proper RP. As for Capwhoring, there will always be people attracted to the big guns, its just a matter of these well established factions teaching these people how to use that power. The 101st has done a great job, if your request is denied, they will help you work on the RP behind your ship. That is what we should be doing. Police, smuggling and alike - timmychen - 07-23-2008 The two 'major' powertrading routes are the Boron<->Beryllium and Diamonds<->Niobium runs. Therefore, the typical "capwhore" mentality: So we'd still have a large number of caps concentrated in one area. Police, smuggling and alike - Jaysom_Blackfist - 07-23-2008 ' Wrote:The two 'major' powertrading routes are the Boron<->Beryllium and Diamonds<->Niobium runs.a perfect example of the reasoning behind people being PVP whores. I mean come if you cant take being blown up in a fighter in a game dont be a PVP whore and get a battlecruiser just to attack little knat fighters bombers I can see you engaging because they are a threat to you but a fighter its like taking a tank to blow up a guy with a knife. Police, smuggling and alike - Zero755 - 07-23-2008 ' Wrote:The two 'major' powertrading routes are the Boron<->Beryllium and Diamonds<->Niobium runs. So they are centered in NY (the obvious problem) and Sig13 (the not so obvious problem) we still have the same problem. But I think if we can get all the new people to learn good RP and get them to acknowledge that there are capwhores out there and that their actions are sevearly frowned upon, the noobs will just see the capwhores as a fact of life. And after a while, being an uber 133T pwnzor of t3h n00bs get boaring. then they will either leave (no RP? good riddance) or they will try something else. There will always be PvP and Cap whores, what we need to do is educate the n00bs, and I give a big Kudos to the Angels they are doing a great job, there just arent enough of them. But the big problem still lies in NY. As your chart suggests that is one of the 2 places where the cap/pvp whoring takes place. I think the LN/SA should take a position like the RM and 101st. There more than ever, with the fragile minds of the noobs in NY it is the WORST place for all the indy capwhores and the arrogant non-RP inclined LPI/LSF/SA. PS I love that chart, it speaks the absolute truth. Police, smuggling and alike - sovereign - 07-23-2008 Calm down everyone. EDIT: Already got calmer while I was writing. Yay. Okay, listen. The LPI are working to be more corrupt and less shooty, the LSF have dredged their faction from the pits of hell into a fairly decent faction that actually does its job and doesn't always just go "pew pew" (for one thing, their largest ships are now gunboats), the LN are working to reform their behavior as well. A lot of the bad indies have been whacked for doing stupid stuff like re-engaging and civilian killing, but most of the good ones are still around. Thank you Liberator America, for being a good example. They're getting better, but if a member does something dumb and doesn't realize it, then how much good does whining do? Tell the leader of the faction and they'll do something about it. People get kicked out of factions for lolzoring and get severely reprimanded for unsportsmanlike behavior- like treating the power-trading smugglers just like the actually smuggling smugglers, or never ever saying a word while fencing off outside evasive range. PM the players you are unhappy with after an un-fun confrontation, ss your conversation and send the screens to the relevant faction leader. Even for indies, the faction leaders of the relevant NPC faction can find someone to talk to them. Really, things aren't as bad as you think. Learn the resident unlawfuls, working in groups is so much more fun. You will always get outmatched if you work alone, by fighters or caps, no matter which side you're on, get acquainted with the nearby factions and prominent indies. Really helps cut down on getting ganked, and opens up all kinds of fun RP banter while two big groups hunt for each other. |
