RE: Annoying Pirates - roadrunner - 12-25-2013 tyro you do not only have your cargo to protect you also have your crew to think about, not to say paying 2mill credst to ensure that your cargo gets there will please your shipping agent RE: Annoying Pirates - Jack_Henderson - 12-25-2013 How about all the ranting (silent traders!!! asshat pirates!!!) stops now and people start realizing that someone had a streak of bad luck, got frustrated and posted this thread to vent his frustration? Nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is: making a huge thread out of it in which the overgeneralized prejudice between traders-pirates are promoted again, again and again, until everybody enters a trader-piracy interaction with negative expectation. 100 % way to make the prejudice come true. RE: Annoying Pirates - Vipera Berus - 12-26-2013 I personally have had a minimal number of pirate encounters for a while - I had more pirate encounters in 1month of playing 4.84 than in the entirety of The previous update. and yet your saying pirates are a serious problem. Could you please tell me where do you find them? Next day in Dublin I met gang of Molies. Avoiding lanes, and wasting time avoiding every player possible, is going to drastically cut your profit/hour, it's a much better business decision to use the lanes because they're faster, and just pay the odd pirate/put up with losing cargo once in a while. You'll make more money in the long run doing this. RE: Annoying Pirates - Binski - 12-26-2013 I love these post 'hull got busted open' anger threads. If you keep asking whats the point when it goes south you'll find yourself asking why we even exist. Well we do, and we play, and its along the lines of good vs evil. Next time instead of complaining about the single most fundamental aspect of the game, just put a bounty on their heads. Honestly when this game was marketed, the part that was plugged the most was that you could become an outlaw or pirate. Most people use their legitimate money to create their unlawful char's later when they have more experience. I suppose you either give up as a hero or play long enough to become the villian eh? Keep your anger inrp and you'll find it makes for better rp in the end. Why not spend some of that cash on something useful. When I get ripped off, it provokes me work on something new. I go out and create a new char like a bomber to deal with them. Eventually time passes and you let it go. Also, there are ways to avoid pirates, that's part of the role of a good trader. You won't come out on top every time but if you plan your routes, try to get other people like escorts in on it, and keep calm during an encounter, you'll be ok! And for GOD's sakes don't go oorp during a pirate encounter, if you think someone's RP is poor or they're breaking the rules, just play along for the moment and suck it up. Report anything you feel is a violation later, or pm them later about bad rp if you must. RE: Annoying Pirates - Flashâ„¢ - 12-26-2013 Get a BS Scanner, problem solved... RE: Annoying Pirates - Lythrilux - 12-26-2013 BS Scanner is a cancer, it's the epitome of "Hurr, I'm a silent trader, avoid all interactions of all kinds". Sure, I guess an overpopulation of pirates may not be a good thing, but BS scanners threaten to kill piracy off completely. This would be much less of a problem is gate piracy was possible. RE: Annoying Pirates - Thargoid - 12-26-2013 Why is gate piracy not possible? I do it all the time. Either hide inside the gate, or 3K away from it facing the lane, so you're out of range of the gate guns. I have a Spyglass scanner on a few of my ships, I've seen very few traders jumping out of lanes early to avoid pirates, in fact I think I've only seen it once. RE: Annoying Pirates - sindroms - 12-26-2013 For those of us who do not know, how big is the detection range on a BS scanner? |
