' Wrote:Thats because one escort is'nt enough.
Also pirates just ignore the escort and destroy the transport before the escort gets a chance to destroy them.

I know, I've seen it happen while escorting traders on with my bounty hunter
character many many times.
The man's right. A single escort doesn't do it. When a trader with a single escort shows up, we hold the transport as hostage against the escort doing anything rude. This also works when the local military or police rolls up on you. We make it clear that if the escort engages, the trader dies. If they both behave and the trader pays, then everything keeps ticking.

Now, if there's a more significant escort, then we might back off and let them move on if we don't think we have a chance of winning. You've got to tip the odds against the pirate, and one VHF isn't going to do it.

If the trader gets close enough for the pirate to see him (even 14k away), the escort is doing it wrong.

But that's for another thread, really.

This is one thing I hate to see. Do not compare it to his level. That is power gaming. A inRP pirate would have no idea how much money a trader really has. Just because he has a fancy ship doesn't mean he has a ton of credits.

And like I've said its hard enough getting one escort.
Plus I think alot of traders think "whats the point, if I'm gonna get wasted anyway"

Personally I think if there was a rule prohibiting attacking
The transport before the escorts have been destroyed
would solve all that.

And would actually make it worthwhile for a trader to hire escorts.

As Thurget said, if the trader gets that close to the pirate, the escort is doing it wrong, anyway.

A proper escort heads down the lane before the trader, and confirms that it's clear. Once the escort confirms that, then the trader goes down the lane. Takes a little longer, but a trader should never get pirated that way. If you have a second escort, that one would stay with the trader. A third would lag behind and close the lane behind the convoy.

It's all about proper technique, people! An escort isn't good because of the firepower, they're good for preventing the trader from ever meeting a pirate. As the former head of Bowex, I've seen this technique work many, many times!

EDIT: And, just because some escorts are doing it wrong doesn't mean we need a new rule to regulate this.

Yeah, but it would get more traders hiring escorts though.

It would also make it pointless to pirate as the trader would have more than enough time to flee while the pirate dealt with the escort.

' Wrote:Thats a fine example of bad demands. I myself wont go higher than two Million Credits. And that only if I see a Transport level 77+. I will be pretty sure that he would have enough cash.
If I pirate for the size of a Transport....I can buy me a new Mastodon and only have 2 Million Credits. What if someone throws a 5 Million Credit demand onto my head?

If you want to play a Pirate, you dont need excessive demands. It's about the demand by itself. You play a pirate to have fun, not earning yourself money for your new Cruiser. If I do my Half Million Demands, I first earn more than I would with 2 Million Demands. More people will pay the 500K instead the 2 Mill.

Well I also look at the levels and to the kind of cargo.
But since these days only ore ships fly around ith would make sence to go and demand by cargo and the amount of it. sinve they get like 60mill for a 5k transport

' Wrote:When i tax a dude in my pirate it would be 1k times every pice of cargo so 5k cargo is 5mill tax and 3k cargo is 3mill tax.

And if i fine a smuggler its 100 times every cargo pice.
and if caught again smuggler drop the whole load.

Never had trouble so far with people unable to pay. I also dont tax under lvl 50.
That would have, in this case, resulted in a tax around 28k, which would have been more than fair, and I would happily have paid.

But demanding ten million credits from a nearly-empty Hegemon with only 1.2 million?
