Authority of Independents - Laowai - 10-10-2008

Well.....

My Corsair - Laowai, is an indie... he sits on the council of Elders......

And when i could get in game... he seemed to have quite a lot of influence on the goings on? Why did he get that position... cap ships and all?

Role play, and a lot of it.. consistently..... i guess thats it

' Wrote:Interesting. So, you, as an alternate account, have time to work your primary account, argue endlessly on this account, and you don't have time to conform to a few regulations as you write up bios.

I currently have 13 characters I base under this account. (I am thinking of expanding it by 7 more.)

5 under my original.

4 under my third.

(My original and third account on the forums do not post much.)

During the meantime on the forums I either trade or I write. (Whilst listening to music.)

My Destroyer RP was written before your RP restrictions.

Do not call my motives into question Eppy, it will result in a fail.

Your motives are quite well known (IE Wanton destruction of the values Discovery holds dear for the sheer sake of argument). Your Destroyer is a flying junkpile and shall remain illegitimate until such time as the Council of Dons sees fit to change it (never).

The fact that you think this highlights your ignorance. *Sigh.* (Not to mention it can be disproven, if only you had the ability to label out each value I am destroying.)

(I expect either no response to the above, or a response which does not actually answer what values I am destroying. Let us observe.)

I have to admit though, I would like a re-model of the Destroyer. (It does not look too Fl-ish.)

Have fun.

I voted no, for reasons below:

I believe that the independant player deserves the same rights as the faction players when they earn it, or more if they work hard for it. Most do not fall into any category except "could do better".

Most doesn't mean all however.

I can only use examples from the Corsairs as I know them better than any other faction...

The Corsair, Benjamin Laowai, is an independant character, and has more rights, responsibilities, respect and power than most independants and faction members. He's earnt it over those that choose to be a Corsair because the Praefect looks cool, or the Osiris is the best battleship for pvp (which is a popular myth).

There will always be a heirarchy of authority. Factions earn it by paying collosal sums of money and bringing organisation to their NPC faction. Those two things take a lot of time, the second especially.

Indies can earn it by displaying RP on a consistant basis, respecting the factions and working with, not against, the factions of that NPC faction. Laowai has made it quite clear that everything he does is motivated by RP, even when it could be personal (for example, his distaste for the Corsair capship register).

Authority comes when you earn it. It doesn't come free when you make a character, buy an ID and rep up your ship.

However, that said, I think the recent decision by Bs| was wrong in that it is dictatorial and uncompromising. Saying you will rule with an iron fist and then asking to work with indies is sending out two polarized messages to people.

The Factions vs Indies arguement is really blown out of proportion right now. The bottom line is, Factions start with more authority/power than individuals, but said individuals can work their way up above the factions with devotion to their role.

Yet the point for point back and forth just sustains the problem.

As I said, why not change the system?

Authority of Independents - Patriot - 10-10-2008

Do the Independents have the same Authority than the official faction..............Easy answer...........NO.............why?

Who will you respect more, the guys alone in is ship,or the guys who can call if friend faction for support him.

Who will you respect more,The 3/4 of time OORP indies or the Good RP official faction?

The asnwer are easy for me

Guys--its like when Solomon said, "Cut the baby in two with a sword and give each claiming to be its mother half".

Do you want what just you want or what will work for everyone?

Simply let EVERYONE participate and all agree to abide by the group decision with admins holding veto powers.

I've recently done away with my Liberty Navy indy. Honestly, I just hate New York enough that it drove me out.

But while I had it, I roleplayed my heart out and got treated very well in turn by the factions. The LN treated me almost as one of them. And the LR were very respectful in regards to interaction.

Authority of Independents - Linkus - 10-10-2008

Factions are a group of independants with a tag and a few nifty features.
They are not at all so different and all this whining about faction laws and independant's not roleplaying only helps to create a rift between us all.

So please, for the sake of Disco and it's continued existance..

STOP WITH THE INDEPENDANT/FACTION WHINING.
