Pirating with cruisers nearby - Jinx - 06-12-2008 @laowei: completely plausible - and personally, i would allways say you are right to do so. - but i imagine getting into trouble - and so i would not like a capship to interfere - not cause its based on RP, but cause i would want to avoid any misunderstandings. - we sometimes have a certain culture that implies that reporting someone and getting someone sanctioned is considered a "win". a trader feeling mistreated may interprete the rules to his bidding - and if unlucky, the issue will become a precedent to further incidents of the same or similar kind. so while i agree that a cruiser is not only allowed but it MUST assist his buddy ( we re roleplaying ) i still see a potential reason for a sanction, depending on the point of view. so thats why i wrote that i wouldn t do it - its not based on roleplay, its based on playing safe. We cannot use a cruiser to pirate because it would basically be bullying. Not fun. It does, however, add to the experience to have that cap visible obviously waiting for some lawful friends to show up. Exactly ... there is no joy being bullied by battle cruisers (which are "designed" for war with comparable ships). If a container transport or cruise liner can do serious damage to a pirate in a gunboat ... shouldn't the pirate be able to do serious damage to a lawful before the pirate is destroyed? Jinx ... this is not directed specifically at you ... but to the community at large. Here's the problem ... we should be here to enjoy the game ... not wonder if the other guy is taking snapshots or recording his entire time online so he can use it against you. I've gotten to the point I snapshot the chat log when I pirate just in case some trader wants to report me ... that way I can show the screen and say ... "look ... I made my demands ... I scanned his ship ... I followed the rules before I destroyed his ship for not paying." I don't like having to snapshot to cover my tail end. I shouldn't have to. But when people misinterpret ... and try to ADD to a rule something that is clearly not there ... this is what we end up with. We have people playing paranoid they're gonna get sanctioned for being a pirate. Now ... there are clear and obvious rule violations we all encounter (those black and white violations like a cruiser demanding 2 mil or die from a trader). And then there's the loopholes people try to report people for. For example right here ... an unlawful cruiser sitting 2k away from a pirate doing his business. The trader fires off a violation report on both the pirate and the unlawful cruiser for this rule. First ... no rule was violated ... and second ... you've just caused an innocent person to have to defend himself to the admins for something he didn't do. This rule is clear ... there's no ambiguity in it. ANYTHING can be interpreted anyway you want it to. But you've gotta look at both the spirit and intent of the rule as well as how it is written. The spirit of the rule is to avoid overkill ... which has nothing to do with role play ... we want fun in the game and being pirated by a cruiser is not fun ... so the rule is there to make it fair for the trader. And the way the rule is written ... specifically deals with the pirate actually engaged in piracy (making demands and firing on the trader). Go back and read the first 10 posts again. I was the trader. I never reported anyone. I thought the pirate did well. I thought the cruiser did well. I saw that this thread would explode into flames and defended the pirate AND the cruiser. I said this case is closed because everything happened fair and square. Then everyone got on their high horse. Never said YOU would or did report them. I'm saying there are those that WOULD. The Pandora's box has already been opened. While the box needs closing ... it can't because pirates are constantly being attacked in the forums. If we want peace in the forums ... people are going to need to stop bashing pirates role play. If you have specific complaints about a specific pirate, take it to the violation reports. But please stop bringing things like this to the general forums. This just fans the flames and makes them brighter. If you have questions about how to interpret a rule ... take it to the admins ... not the general public. Reason ... the general public will give you as many different opinions as there are members of the forums. Let the admins address in public what the rule clarification is. But please stop adding to the chaos. Pirating with cruisers nearby - SevereTrinity - 06-24-2008 Sheesh, everyone, let it die |
