Faction right to lie on Wiki - Vogel - 05-11-2010 I don't know about you, but getting the proper programs to pinpoint things on a map takes a tad more effort than the average Joe lolwut is willing to make. On the other hand, having it on a bluntly stated web page is well within their abilities. If something is meant to be hidden In-RP in some way shape or form, then the people who would be adventurous enough to find it would. But keeping it off the wiki means one less lolwut LABC flying straight to it. In the faction idea I had, a hidden jumphole is a "back door" to the system. In order for the faction to 'work at all' it has to be hidden from even the large powers that be. Having it up on the wiki so some random person can bumble on through, or military indies can barricade the hole, completely destroys the jumphole's entire purpose. Should it ever come to pass, I would very much like for the JH's location to be kept off of that wiki; let them use the Jumpgate like everyone's "supposed" to; the hole is essential to our RP and should be kept hidden at all costs. So therefore, yeah, I support removing its coordinates. You can have it on the wiki but don't be that specific; wrecks with codenames are hidden on the wiki, so if something is specifically required to be hidden then why make an exception? I actually don't even care about removing its coordinates. All I want it merely to remove the thing that sits up there slap in the middle of the faction infobox that says "Oh, yeah, it's 23k (or whatever) straight up once you get to this spot". It could even be in a spoiler, though I'd prefer if it wasn't. Like I said, it's a matter of not having it slap-dab in the face of anyone who happens to stumble upon that page. Seriously, people, it's not worth five pages of flames and drama. The time I enjoyed Discovery the most was when I was new and didn't know anything other then "be in RP, and be nice to other people." This was the time that I really felt like I was a little pilot in a big universe. When I had to work to find things of interest. There was a sense of wonder around the whole thing. Personally I like being able to do the research and know as much as possible about the universe my characters inhabit so I can develop characters that really seem like they belong in it. As far as locations go... I dont think they need to be there for everything. But I think being able to do the majority of RP research in the wiki should be possible. That's what I thought the point of the wiki was. If that's not it, what is? Sure, characters aren't supposed to know about it. But they're not supposed to know about most things, all of which are there. If players are going to abuse knowledge, they'll do it regardless of some source. You know the time I enjoyed Discovery the most? Before I noticed that certain people seem to flame or flail in every thread. (In fact, I think we discussed a bit of this in the one chat yesterday evening.) Faction right to lie on Wiki - GHOSTbielars - 05-14-2010 How about if you dont want it found, put a freakin UNKNOWN location stamp on it or something. Dont lie about its location. Wiki is a resource. If it doesnt know it doesnt know but a lie is different altogether. Faction right to lie on Wiki - Curios - 05-14-2010 Its ridiculous. Wiki is oorp and used to be a source of information. No point to post there less info, or wrong info or whatnot. LOL |
