Battleship Shock Ray? - Trogdor - 09-19-2013 Battleship Shock Ray Stats: Class 8 140k/70k dmg .08 refire = 1 shot every 12 seconds 1500m range 2000m/s speed So you're doing 140k damage every 12 seconds? Vs. Cerberus Battleship Turret: Class 8 45k/22.5k dmg 1.00 refire 3575m range 650m/s speed Does 400,000 more damage over 12 seconds... almost 4x as much... And, yeah, I realize this is meant to be a short range battle-razor type weapon but... Let's look at the Class 10 Zapper turret. About the same range and higher projectile speed, 4k dps. Meaning over 12 seconds, 48k damage. But you can mount MANY of these turrets on a battleship. Even if you can only aim 6 of them at a target at once, that's still double the damage of the shock ray over 12 sec, in the same application, and they don't take up your precious class 8 slots. Am I missing something? This gun seems extremely underpowered unless it has some special effect I'm unaware of. RE: Battleship Shock Ray? - Flashâ„¢ - 09-19-2013 Lets just say this. " There are no more BRs for Crusiers and Battleships, its not called a gun that makes absolute no sense, a Shock Ray " RE: Battleship Shock Ray? - Trogdor - 09-19-2013 I'm confused.
RE: Battleship Shock Ray? - Total.Absolution - 09-19-2013 Essentially the battle-razors for cruiser/battleships (not sure about gunboats) are replaced with the shock rays, which are completely useless compared to their old counterparts. The smaller zappers are also rather terrible, compared to Solaris. Since the beam effect isn't actually where you're hitting, its a major pain to try and hit anything compared to Solaris or even secondary turrets. And the large shock ray is just as bad, even worse because it takes up a heavy turret slot, and takes quite a bit of energy, whilst still have mediocre accuracy, and here's why. All the shots from these "beam" weapons follow -exactly- where the gun is pointing. And you'll probably notice that with any other gun, projectiles can come out of the weapon at a slight angle, making it much easier to hit things and making the game, imo more playable. This effect is also the same that the battlerazor had, however its replacement doesn't have this, so you have to be very lucky to hit anything with it. At the moment, they have a misleading effect (whilst the actual projectile is completely invisible), and have to be facing directly at the target or they miss. tl;dr Yes, the large shock ray is very underpowered, borderline useless compared to what it's trying to phase out (Battle razor). RE: Battleship Shock Ray? - Lythrilux - 09-19-2013 As stated before, zapper are anti torpedo. RE: Battleship Shock Ray? - Trogdor - 09-19-2013 Isn't that what flak turrets are for? RE: Battleship Shock Ray? - Kazinsal - 09-19-2013 Because nova'ing transports is entertaining. RE: Battleship Shock Ray? - Trogdor - 09-19-2013 Um.. let me be frank. Is anyone actually going to use any of these laser turrets with the intent of shooting torpedoes? And... really? You gave us a torpedo swatter that takes up a heavy battleship turret slot? RE: Battleship Shock Ray? - Kazinsal - 09-19-2013 Zappers are anti-torpedo. Shock Rays are anti-cruiser. Both are awful and have awful names. |
