Had this idea for a while now. Why is there no actual stealth fighter or the like? For roleplay purposes mostly, since I don't expect it to cloak or disappear. But just something small like the raven's claw used to be, something spec ops. Right now when you roleplay a spy or infiltrator or anything like that in a civi ship you sort off feel your testosterone-holders drop from under you.

There are no actual stealth fighters in the real world either, or bombers for that.
And noone is developing them anymore, cause their military value is next to nil.

The only good reason for a stealth ship would be espionage.
I would not mind having the grizzly and the rheinland armored transport with some form of stealthy feature, invisability, cloaking an camelion effect, mimiking the other sides heavy fighter, or some thing.

But on a fighting ship, why bother, and out of roleplay,,,balanceing ololol.

(New forum structure confused me, please move this to general mod discussion one floor down)

It's not ment to be all ZOMGPVP! That's it. And that the military now stopped developing them doesn't mean the Human race can't develop them 1100 years into the future. Just a small fighter or something that conveniently found it's way on the public market. Basically something that looks stealthy, and has an infocard that screams 'I'm stealthy! Woot!'

The Virage and Slipstream are looking like Stealth Ships.

We dont really need stealth ships, and spyes are everywere, trust me.

He didnt want to have an Invisible Ship developed....

Real "Invisible" Jets are invisible to the Radar. But you can see them with your own Eyes. It would be cool to have something like this. Just make the type of that Ship disappear from the Scanner.

Yeah, something like "Very Light Fighter" with stealth construction. Could be targeted only manually, not via scanners. But would be pretty expensive...

Try the Virage, it's a neat one.

But other than that, it's true that more ships could be built classified as "stealthy". The Phantom Empire has two dark models that are hard to see, and there's also the Wasupu/Stinger, which is a rather small Civilian VHF and is also tinted black.

And about the "missing from the radar" stuff.

The idea of making a ship totally overcome scanners is... Well, I believe it is undoable. Have you thought about PVP? If something like that would arise, a new category would have to be made from zero, balancing issues and watnot. The most appropriate aproach would be Jammers, I say. Something to reduce the range your ship can be found for, hm, about 1k, 2k, etc.

Now, invisibility? Cloaking? Meh.

However if we're talking about roleplay here, well, I believe just tinting some models in black would suffice.
I for one would enjoy it.

Maybe just give it very weak guns like class 5 or something? Or an ultra weak power plant?

I always thought it'd be nice to just have some kind of item which reduces the range an enemy can detect you on scanners, available only to a few select groups... namely the order, nomads, LSF, and wilde.

Normally you can pick someone up on scanners at 14k, target at 10k, and scan at a max of 4k. With this device, you wouldnt show up on anyone's scanners until you're within 1-2k range.

It doesnt make you invisible or un-targetable, it just reduces your scanner profile so you can sneak through populated areas more easily.
