FL and IPv6 - Alley - 01-30-2011 http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1054186-N...ress-exhaustion Anyone knows if Freelancer has IPv6 support ? You can also test if your internet supports IPv6 here : http://test-ipv6.com/ More info here : http://test-ipv6.com/ipv6day.html FL and IPv6 - VoluptaBox - 01-30-2011 ' Wrote:http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1054186-N...ress-exhaustion I use that protocol and I play freelancer, so I guess it supports it... FL and IPv6 - Treewyrm - 01-30-2011 Nope. Freelancer uses old DirectPlay for client/server interaction, although it will see servers on IPv6 addresses it will not connect to them. You can have both adresses though I think ? Thanks for clearing it up, Treewyrm. So how will we do after the death of IPv4 this year ? No more FL ? :< FL and IPv6 - Not Espi - 01-30-2011 back when i used ipv6 and wanted to make my own lan server it failed hard and showed odd ip addresses. disabled it and it went fine. from my experience - it doesnt. FL and IPv6 - VoluptaBox - 01-30-2011 Then again, I know nothing of that stuff, just saw that writing somewhere on my computer:D FL and IPv6 - Snoozzzer - 01-30-2011 ' Wrote:Impossible because IPv6 isn't enabled on the internet yet. You can have both adresses though I think ? Calm down. IPv4 will be around for years to come. The pool of free addresses has / will very shortly run out, but ISPs have been implementing things like large scale NAT to prolong IPv4's death. FL and IPv6 - Error - 01-30-2011 I doubt we'll have any problems with this in the foreseeable future. IPV6 should be able to tunnel IPV4 so we have backwards compability for any software using IPV4. ...Which is everything at the moment, since, as mentioned, IPV6 isn't in widespread use yet and won't be anytime in the near future. Wether or not Freelancer itself is compatible is another matter, but given it uses an API (DirectPlay) to make the actual connection, I don't think there will be issues provided M$FT makes the API compatible to IPv6. And if there are issues, there's always tunneling. FL and IPv6 - lw'nafh - 01-30-2011 ' Wrote:Calm down. IPv4 will be around for years to come.
