After being away from the game for a few weeks due to family/work stuff, my first encounter upon coming back is being tailed by a LH gunboat, flying past a liberty planet into a trade lane with me. Get on the other side of a jump gate, and almost immediately hits me with a CD, THEN shouts Halt now, and demands 500k. I start lagging, get a delayed "you've got 30 sec to comply" and by the time I'm able to start shooting back I kablooie.
10/15 minutes later after I fix my net, I pop back on and spend another 5/10 minutes getting myself out of Westpointcause I'm stuck. And then, on the way to Planet Manhattan, end up getting stopped by 3 more lane hackers. Just normal players with the ID, no IFF. And again, demanding 500k. Again this ends in my destruction. So, wonderful night of Discovery RP mod.
Is there a convention going on I don't know about? o_0
You were indeed unlucky, and a bit of a wally.
We lowered the tax to a measly 100k as we didn't want to blow you up, and told you so. Then you made a stupid comment about us being "love birds", was even then given a further 10 seconds to pay. Only then did you get your worthless RP and ship blown into bits.
So.....I searched for a Lane Hacker feedback thread.....did not find one, so......here is some feed back.
I got stopped in Cali the other day by a LH tagged hacker, not an Indy. I was in a PTrain, with a freelancer ID and a Neutral IFF.
I say hi....he says stop bla bla cut engines. I do. Hacker says 5mill Tax for Cargo. I tell him I do not know if i got it to spare and need to make a system to system call to my wife to see if we got it in the bank. He says you are just stalling for backup to show up. Na, I tell him...I am a freelancer with no friends and no one to call for help. I RP the call to my wife, after which I tell him I do not have access to the cash, (he starts shooting me at that point) but that I would be willing to work off the Tax, hauling some goods for them, this was never read by him I suppose. That was the end of the conversation. I had already pointed out, that I had done business with all sorts of people in Liberty and that I had good papers to be able to dock and trade on hacker bases. Did not matter.
So, he stays out side my gun range and he and another tagged LH that showed up take turns Torpedoing me. I made hardly an effort to get away. Just thrusting to the NY gate some two trade lanes away.....anyways....long story short. The hacker that initiated the contact, dies at the same time I do from a mine laid out by his buddy that showed up. I never heard his buddy say anything, but he could have been rping on a group channel. The hacker that initiated the interaction, did not leave the system for 2 hours and stayed logged on afterwards, no big deal, but...he did die at the same time as me as a direct result of the combat taking place. Should have been a pvp death for him but he stayed in game playing that character.
My beef.....I do not trade for the credits, I run trade ships to try and develop characters and get a story going. A Freelancer in a Ptrans with access to hacker bases would have seemed like a good person for a hacker to know in Liberty. That being the reason I set that character up. Yea..."I" knew that there was a hacker in Cali grouped up with another one in NY, but my Character did not and using that OORP information would have been metagaming, so I kept to the lane I was on, instead of going to Ontario and over to Colorado and then NY, or up above the plane and over to the Texas JH, and thus avoid an interaction with a Tagged pirate.
I read all these threads with people female doggin about "Silent Traders" that do not say anything when getting stopped, and who can blame them? Pirate RP for the most part is Credit/Blue message oriented, with little else ever being played out (from a traders perspective) other than a repeat of the same old scene. If I had been in corporate train with corporate ID, I would have expected a stop and a payout. Maybe a little bit more imagination from the LH when they run into freelancers in ships that could help their cause.
I have always enjoyed reading the RP stories behind some of the Lane Hackers exploits. Nicole Hunter comes to mind. Very detailed stories and rp and always entertaining to read.
