Quote:Kusari scientists blew up the sun in Munich so now Kusari is throwing money at Rheinland to stop them from going totally crazy.

Is this the official canon? It wasn't really clear to me and I got a lot of conflicting opinions on what happened.

From the impression I've gotten from the dev team, it was a suggested idea but was not meant to be included. It was just a particular someone who opened it up to the public [Image: emoticon-00126-nerd.gif]

Agreeing with Tel is risky, but Liberty being unharmed economically by pretty much every house being hammered by Gallia and/or becoming Gallia's lapdog is.. Awkward.

Perhaps a mini storyline idea. Gallia forces Kusari - Liberty embargoes. Rheinland hates Liberty. Bretonia is shattered. No matter how powerful Liberty is, that would break its economy.

Which is good. Gallia needs to remain intimidating a while longer, and being more or less equal to Liberty but far more "logistically challenged" takes most of the threat away.

I love it when everyone becomes an economist here.

Let me be a good ecnomonyjew and help you out on this one. Saronsen is right on most accounts but one - that Liberty economy is flourishing as ever.

The economy of Liberty gets harmed, not ruined, but harmed, largely by the fact that their access for minerals and raw materials of the rich Omega sector is quite limited which forces them to buy them at higher costs, BUT, you have Bretonia. Bretonia probably spends LOADS of money for buying arms, vehicles and every other god-damned war material you can think of. Yes, including ships.

I am not sure how well a hell lot of you fare with economy and economic history, but just think about WW2 US, and how they rose to become one of the most dominant powers in the globe because of it. Wars on full scale are simply profitable for the 3rd-side viewer, he sells they buy simple as that.

Now, for Rheinland. Think that you have no insurance and you open a jewelry store in a bought land in Detroit. How long you think that your store will last? 3 months? 6? a year? Eventually someone will rob your store, and while you make a nice income in the meanwhile, you'll lose MILLIONS. Now, think that you also bought furnishing and other equipment for you store that values a few millions as well, and our nasty robbers decide to torch the place after they leave. And you have no insurance.

Now, tell me how big you think that commerce in Rheinland is? Most ships are flying without insurance, because smaller insurance companies simply can't insure that amount of ships and cargo (and remember that ships themselves cost alone a few millions), so you fly without one. There is a pirate menace that is bigger than ever. So, lets say you aren't stupid to go on full operations and you simply minimize them and fly most of the time with police escort.
How many police officers can escort around? Not that many. So, you instead of going suicide trading with your ships, simply slow down operations - how? by making less trips. Less trips means you have pilots and crews that you don't need, and since your company is already on the down-side of things, you fire them. Less people working.

My oh my.

Also, if you take the Westfallen vanilla infocard as something false - then its your own problem. We base our lore around what we take from vanilla. You don't like vanilla? Talk to Chris Roberts.

1. The US was able to rise to military / economic / industrial power on a global level because we not only were lend-leasing and selling tons of goods, we could manufacture it with our own industry and our own natural resources. Most Sirius industry (aside from Gankia) is located in Bretonia and Rheinland. Bretonia has lost Leeds and Liberty isn't on good terms with Rheinland at this point. Additionally, Liberty and Kusari are in the same boat when it comes to general lack of material along with heavy industry. Liberty is certainly a financial giant, but those finances mean nothing when the supply can't possibly meet the entire demand. It's one of the reasons why arms smuggling from Rheinland to Bretonia is so big right now. It's difficult to justify Liberty being such a naval and economic colossus in this kind of situation.

2. It might not be accurate to say that Rheinland's issues with securing commerce are so bad that it's having a catastrophic effect on the economy. Sure, it's bad, but I don't believe it's a big enough issue to counter their obviously huge shipbuilding capacity, status as the Sirian mineral granary, and amount of territory.

There's no need to act condescending. The economic concepts in most of our arguments are equally as basic as those in yours.
