I'll rephrase it to reflect it more accurately: an example of bad implementation of otherwise good idea. Rushed it, disregarded advices and had it chopped down to pieces, an effort wasted in impatience.
As a responce to the topic's question, I personaly think that roleplay can be limited in only one way. When it starts to harm the roleplay of others. And not just in a way such as "Humpf. He's in my system" but more or less ruin whole stories and castles of fun and work built up over god knows how long a time. To pick an example mentioned in the first post of this thread, my favorite (and only) character, the Keeper Sil has a somewhat...unique relationship with a Human, Sindrom's character. It went pretty well for a while and both sides enjoyed it untill it somehow went amiss. The Nomad - Outcast relationship became completely messed up, and months of work and development we're threatened with utter destruction. The roleplay with Sindroms and Sil was halted because of this reason, and continued again when it was safe to do so.
All in all, lets not forget that we play on this server for our entertainment. Nobody wants to see their roleplay bashed into the ground, but if it's spoiling the fun and roleplay for others, then maybe adapt or find something else to do?
Aye, I am afraid partly that was my own fault as i became arrogant back there with the outcasts, something i have now fixed and hope they can forgive me.

well religious fanatics arent known for their patience or regard for others =P
Well as I have said before, I don't think anyone can say " You can't RP like that " , because noone can judge this. One mans trash, other mans treasure - this tells it all. Corsair may RP desire to join Outcasts, Outcast can fall in love with Nomad (Even though it is kinda perverted, haha), Navy may turn to Rogue and there are loads of things like this, noone can say " You can't do that".
You just can RP with him/her and say "I won't allow that, I dislike it, etc..." but, again, fully in RP.
I am not a christian, altough, Don't judge or you will be judged. And who of us can tell others that their fantasy and ideas are bad? Noone I belive.
(Of course, there are the totally oorp people doing insane things, but I am talking about people who really do RP, just with original ideas)
I buy things I don't want to make an impression on people I don't like.

Normally I'd say so, however it's not that simple or one-sided. There are cases when say player A speaks for player B without B's prior consent/agreement, i.e. putting words into someone's else mouth to push own line. Is it roleplay? Technically it may be quite within the boundaries, but it's a rather bad call. Now in such case, if I am a player B, I will stop and warn politely player A in private message that the session will go further like that and has to be brought back to common grounds where both A and B play without deciding for the other side what to do. If say a session goes by a certain pre-planned scenario then all directly involved participants must know that beforehand and has at least some sort of agreement on how it'll go, saving everyone (at least those involved) from misunderstanding, otherwise we get the case of one player playing not only for self but for someone else directly.
Again, things aren't black and white, and there are not-so-rare cases when things get out of hand and has to be brought back to where they belong, and the example scheme I described above is just one of those. But in general, yes, bar those exceptions.
I don't like having my RP restricted either, but I can however see the need for such regulations.
I mean, honestly how often do you see someone sanctioned for using a Werewolf on a Navy officer or something? Too many people use RP as an excuse to use better equipment.
But in regards to how your character evolves, there should be no restrictions beyonh logical sense except those put in place as consequences by your own decisions. Like a Corsair wanting to join the Outcasts would be looked at with suspicion, possible spy. A Navy officer that went rogue wouldn't suddenly be able to turn around and become Navy again without some sort of pardon, and would prob'ly be looked at with spite amongst the other rogues.
