The Virage is huge and slow. If you don't wnat to die horribly then for the love of all that is holy don't buy it.
My suggestion would be an eagle with civvy or zoner guns. You won't be treated with any hostility anywhere and can explore with ease. It's a nice ship, fast and agile, but a little lacking in power-plant.
The Spatial will get you very funny looks in omicron alpha, being IMG made, means the outcasts will treat you with a degree of hostility.
I honestly think the Eagle would be your best bet. I suggest you couple it with some zoner guns.

I fly a spatial. I think its the most unique looking ship in the game. It's got DECENT agility for a ship of that size. Increased fire power with the turrets that fire all directions, and 2 mine stops, with increased power output. It's a tank of a fighter.
