I tried returning to Disco these last few days.

This is not the game I remember. Not sure what happened.

I tried running this RP event but it is impossible.

I tried both as Samura and as the pirates. As soon as the Samura ship approaches Kyushu 2-3 of those [EX] people gank you. As soon as my pirate ship approaches there are 3-4 of those Naginata KOI ships . I can see them logging in when they see a ship they know belongs to someone doing the event. Not sure if they are the same group or not.

With about 20 people on the server I guess it is easy to write down or remember who is doing the event and monitor it to collect bounties.

Back in the day we use to call that metagaming and it was frowned upon, but seems to be the norm now.

Whoever designed the bounty reward system did not take that into account I guess.

Anyways just a small rant.

After having spent a few hours and millions of credits to set up ships for the even and having this experience, this really isn't worth it.

Wish you all the best, and I hope your experience will differ, but I don't think I will be flying around Sirius again.

Welcome back! There are still rules that govern metagaming and ganking. To avoid a million rules and sub-rules, the judgement of what constitutes as a gank or metagame is up to the moderators and admins. The best thing to do in these cases is to file a report. As a reminder, don't engage in OORP chat with players about reporting them. Just do it. Even if the report ends up going nowhere, if there is a stream of reports about the same player or group then at the very least it would cause an admin or moderator to have a conversation with the person or group lead. The links provided does not constitute as a gank or metagaming. As the faction forum account stated, the ships logged may be perceived as a metagame but they were fulfilling a different role. Whether that truly is the case or not, the evidence does not support the metagame. Still report it if you notice a trend. If several others report the same, then it's a trend that can't be ignored. Not saying this is the case here, but events do bring out the best and, sadly, the worst of the community... talking to you, base campers.

It is a fact that a good amount of the backbone players that made Discovery what it was years ago have left for a variety of reasons. It is a shame that role play, on a global level, has diminished greatly and it makes me wonder if it's right to even call this a role play community anymore. Nonethtless, there is still some good that can be found with this mod. Improvements to the POB system, thanks mostly to Zentor and others, have made refining and fabrication of parts and pieces possible. PVE battlezones are fun especially with some friends. Environmental hazards and anomalies have made exploring enjoyable and potentially profitable.

It ain't about what you are capable of, it's about what you're willing to do.

I agree that disco isn't what it used to be and that sucks, but at the same time I think that the server changes because of what players want. I think more people like to pvp than those who don't so naturally it will evolve into a more pvp focused server. It sucks for us who don't care for pvp, especially like you and me who came back after years of inactivity and found it like this, but I don't think this change is a bad thing.
Player list meta is allowed here though, since we wouldn't have any encounters without it due to the low player count.
