okay people. you are doing it wrong. first of all, pirate rp is not to ask you for a joke or to have a nice chat with you at a cup of tea.

they are to take what they can / rape / slit your throat / piss over your body / shave your balls / all of the above in a random order.

Quote:Maritime piracy, according to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) of 1982, consists of any criminal acts of violence, detention, rape, or depredation committed for private ends by the crew or the passengers of a private ship or aircraft that is directed on the high seas against another ship, aircraft, or against persons or property on board a ship or aircraft. Piracy can also be committed against a ship, aircraft, persons, or property in a place outside the jurisdiction of any state, in fact piracy has been the first example of universal jurisdiction.

GOOD RP as it should be, would be emerging from a nebula, killing you, salvage anything thats left and wave goodbye. although that is restricted by server rules. lucky you.

pirate talk =/= 'jolly good evening chaps, how was your evening? did you have an enjoyable flight? oh look. the local police is here! how about we play a game of charades? back at the prep school i was one of the rather better ones.'

dont talk to me about good rp. yes, it is good rp for a trader / miner to try to run, but FFS when you are CD'd, and looking into a barrel of a SNAC / several fighter cockpits with a transport. good god. you either do what they want or go ballistic out of desperation (depending on numbers, of course).

RUNNING, if the pirate is 500 m away from you with a cd is POINTLESS. sitting there silently is POINTLESS. NEGOTIATE! TALK!

note: i know many traders are good when it comes to being stopped int he end, majority is not. however i believe this ratio with pirates is fairly balanced. i dont run into those. i did so once. i almost killed him in a ptrain. he was a tridente. crappy pilot, but you can guess the qualisty of their flight skill from the talk (usually).

deal with the problem from within. start with yourself.

Whenever I did pirating I found that the entire concept of demanding money which could be sent over some stupid bank account was entirely too droll and predictable. "Keep your debit card on hand in case of pirates!" So instead I'd have a freighter of some sort so I could haul a chunk of what they had, go through a docking sequence, "I'll take this, this, and this. Don't resist or we vent your crew." Then go off and try to find out how to sell it.

1% traders halt a RP
50% traders say GTFO and starts trusting so they die
25% F1 in attempt to not get busted
And the other 24% do something else.

The point is most traders suck. Indie pirates suck too, except some. LR- pwn ass, and soo does the VR.
The other 24% open fire and then yell abuse in system chat.

Pirate's can be just as bad. As someone that frequently plays as both a pirate and a trader I would say the traders are the worse of the two. Most of the pirates I run into when trading or mining provide me with some good RP, however I've only ever stopped one or two traders that played along nicely (Traders from official factions are always a pleasure to stop). By playing along nicely I mean that they RP'd with me didn't just say "Ok" pay me and fly off, and even that usually only happens after several CD's.

A lot of the time when pirates might seem as though they aren't RP'ing very well, at least for me personally, is because it's not that easy to try and chase a transport, keep disrupting it's cruise engines, dodge the incoming fire and try and RP with them at the same time. If as a trader you stop straight away and explain that you are cutting your engines, then it's much less likely that the pirate will quickly sort you into the "lolwut" pile and they will take the time to RP with you. If you try and thrust away or don't talk to them then it's very hard not to assume that you aren't interested in role-play and the pirate will probably rush you through the encounter.

Also, this topic has been made a million times before, and it always ends up with a similar conclusion: The trader/pirate situation is fine as it is, because the problems with it are down to the people playing the game and each side is as bad as the other.

Yesssss!

Last time I got into a piracy-situation was when I jumped from Magellan to California and run right into a LN - battlegroup consisting of a carrier and two gunboats. I wasn't aware that alien orgs were something not to be shipped, since the info-card doesn't display a warning and Planetform seems to have good use for them.

No listening to arguments from my side, only order to drop the cargo in space (right next to the borderstation) and threats of destroying my AT from the carrier. Well, that's exactly how I imagine a good piracy has to be. Threats and orders. No coffee-talk, because there would be no time since a patrol could come by any time.

Too bad the situation didn't end a little more inRP (like forcing me to unload the cargo on the border-station, calling in a team of specialists to examine it or making something else of the situation.)

So I agree: it's not a pirate-trader thing at all, but a people-thing.

Course this happens a lot, both ways around. It's either the pirate or the Trader that doesn't role-play. But, I don't really see the point of posting about it on the forums so much.

I believe there are some good guides out there that help traders and pirates alike to become better role-players. If you think a certain guide is lacking information then why not add that information or make your own guide;) Then when you come across a pirate or trader/miner or, well a bad role-player in general then kindly let him/her know that his or her role-play performance was lacking and it would be a good idea to have a look at <put guidebook name here>.

Then what I would do is let the person know he/she can come to me for questions. I think we could improve things considerately that way.

Well, it wasn't really a charge, they could just turn around without paying...and I put it this high because I didn't want them to go there. That's what blockade is about, right? But many of them had the same problem...they didn't understand that. *sigh*

Edit: Oh and by "pirated" I meant the total number of ships I've had the pleasure to interact with.
