That's not the point. It's the effect in usage of such words. Maybe you, personally think it's no biggy, but someone who will hear it, might be put down because of it.

Also, since I got quite few positive responses, I'll publish some more observation and thoughts based on psychological aspect.
To be honest, I always wanted to do that, but surprisingly, even though I say I don't give a crap about opinions towards me, I suppose I always did, and feared to be misunderstood like I mostly was already.

Huge thanks to people who actually did not fear to say few nice words.

I'll get some sleep. Have a good part of your day/night.

Yes, change the blue messages to reflect the fact that it's a world in which no one dies.

"X was destroyed by Y (guns)" would depict the real action and (missing) consequences much better.

Very rarely do people feel psychological pain when referred to as being "killed". Although instances far apart may occur.

However, also do note that the way the person phrases it is also a factor.

There was once when I was quite new to Discovery and my Executioner got shot down by some Pirates. Apparently, those Pirates were role playing as cannibals. So they basically RP that they towed my tractor pod in and ate me. I was half shocked and a tad down heartened (my first character I made just got eaten). At least they had the courtesy of sending a private message to me telling me no hard feelings. It helped eased things a bit, but still, being eaten is well...disturbing, psychologically.

Being "killed" may be fine, as long as the other party doesn't point it out too obviously.
Eg: *Destroys Escape Pod*. (I've seen this multiple times)
In fact, I am against destroying of escape pods. If you want to kill off somebody's character, at least ask for his permission/consent.

The factors have to be weighed in before coming to the sweeping conclusion that telling somebody you "died" will harm him psychologically.

Just my two cents.

Your char was "eaten"? Your pod was destroyed?

*chuckles* You meet nasty people out there, really.

But on a serious note: No one can do anything to your character that you do not consent to. They want to eat you? It won't happen (or won't have consequences) if you do not want it. It's the easiest "victim rule" (established firmly in nearly any rp-community that I know - except FL) that allows the victim of a roleplay interaction to define the outcome for his character.

Example:

Maneater: "We tractor your pod and eat you"
You: IRP solution: "You can't catch the pod. It's gone".
You: OORP solution: //sorry, I decide whether my char dies. Have a nice day.

Podkiller: "We shoot your pod"
You: "The pod has already disappeared, you cannot find it"

You are not forced to participate in powergaming. What happens to your character is your decision, no one else can decide.

So... don't let powerplay and bad roleplay take your fun. People can only harm your character if you let them. The game is clear on the "no death for players" concept, no one can force you do roleplay it differently. They may eat you, dissolve you, throw you in a black hole... you only die if you want to.
