If the NPCs and players can't defend their own planets then tough luck. No intervention should occur unless things become unbalanced. (I tend to see a BAF etc every time I log in so I doubt it is unbalanced)
Take it up with the player faction that claims to defend such places instead of going OORP like this.
Coincidence? I think not.

Umm... Right. Back on topic.

The NPC's can usually hardly drain your shield, so its not really fair... At all. Like I said, you should RP your character's fear of being so heavily outnumbered, regardless of whether or not its actually a threat.

I do agree with this, None of my unlawful chars would sit outside lawful bases unless engaged in a fight.
However from the sounds of this incident they were several k from the base anyway, making the whole argument null and void, and removes the need for this thread to exist.
Was kinda weird to see Mollies pirating in Cambridge, but thing is Bretonia is so empty of traders (apart from Cambridge, and a few stragglers at Leeds) so if the Mollies want to pirate, they'd have to do it in Cambridge.
Hopefully with 4.85 trade balancing done, there'll be more traders everywhere and pirate can stick to their ZOI better.
But for now, was nice to see Mollies being naughty instead of kissing the Queen's ass:P
