' Wrote:To clarify a bit, we already have ghosts being RP'd here - the 101st ghosts of razgriz (an outcast group). Those are 'actual' ghosts, meaning dead people held back; though no explanation was really ever given for it as far as I'm aware.

I'm not talking about dead people, but rather a race of creatures which exists in it's natural state as either a Gas, Liquid, or other non-solid form.

No. The GoR was the original name for the current 101st, they are most definately alive and human and not dead.

The only Ghosts on disco that I know of are zapps project, both of which use a 101st tag, however both dead, and thus not a part of the 101st. There are only two, not the whole 101st.

Since this is Tenacity's 2nd attempt to get an idea off the ground that has something to do w/ Gaia, I say the old saing is true: "Inside every Bretonian, is a Gaian trying to get out":D

Anyway, as much resistance as he faces, I don't see any harm in Tenacity giving it a try.

I'm not a big fan of the nymphs, fairies & wood goblin motiefs, but it did originate in ancient Celtic nature worship, so I think it has a place in how Gaians base their identity as a culture.

& in my own way, I think I understand why these things wouldn't be ghosts. If all life is seen as an energy force, then, the lifeforce would have differnet frequencies in different locations. & if Tenacity's 'beings' simply lived on a different frequency than humans & were able to manipulate it by force of will, that would explain their 'ghostiness' to us

For Example, just because we can't hear the sound of a dog whistle, it doesn't mean that there is no tone in the air.

Since last year, the small group of Gaians I control in my RP have a hyper-sensitivity to the lifeforce of Gaia, & when under intense pain or stress, can see patterns of cause & effect travelling out in circles, riding on waves of time from moment to moment, much like when a pebble is thrown in a body of water...giving them a perspective of universal symbiosis to their enemies just as much as their allies.

Crap. Sorry for the tangent...my bottom line point is: I am not opposed to Tenacity thinking outside the box & trying something new. It may fail, but not because I shoot down the idea from the get-go. He has my support to give it a shot & see where the idea takes him.

One question: Why?

Seems rather boring and likely to die if you ask me. -.-'

From Nomads to ghosts... And then... Ghosts from Gaia? Sure... We'll send in a FEAR squad right away.

Anyways, honestly... I dislike the idea of 'ghosts' because realistically they would probably choose someplace else to chill rather than go, "Ohai! DEDZ! Fly shipz nao!" Nomads could at least be played off as the city in Newcastle having a seperate hive-structure/leadership/big-brainedness since its on the opposite side of Sirius from the Dyson Sphere and thus incapable of maintaining mental connection with the others.

While not technically ghosts, they might as well be. If they live and operate in a different frequency then they'd likely go through the bloody seat of the ship. The only reason we're able to touch matter is because out atoms are operating on the same frequency, otherwise we'd go through it. Unless they have super-mind powerz and can control what they want to fall through, this doesn't quite make sense.

Another question: Why not?

Personally, I don't care if it has anything at all to do with Gaia or not...but my curiosity is piqued now, & I'm just gonna keep an open mind, suspend disbelief & wait & see how he starts to hammer out the logistics of it before I start beating the idea down like a rented mule...but hey, that's just me:P

& btw, as weird as it feels for me to defend Tenacity on anything, I don't wanna see this shot down as a reflex action for this reason: Mal's Fnordettes.

With his Geode & fnordette spheres, Mal has worked out a brilliantly plausable way to re-integrate a non-coporial conciousness into the physical world....& it works; adding an 'out of the box' depth to his RP that effects the RP of others in a positive way.

...Like a snowball rolling downhill

:$ ::edit- OOPS! I hit the wong button...all this was supposed to just be an edit of my other post:::$

as said by marburg there are scientific ways to interpret it.

Perhaps these aliens have developed phasing technology which allows them to phase in and out of the normal material frequency everything works on, that would allow them to travel through walls, or even become invisible. If you can phase in and out like that, then you probably have related technology which gives you some pretty hefty control over matter itself, and you would be able to easily alter what you look like - so you could take on the physical appearance and form of a human, while not being a human.

It gives a new twist on the infestation thing - rather than being nomads that act as parasites inside a human body, they simply make themselves look human. It doesnt allow them to manipulate security systems and such like the nomads could by infesting high-ranking members of the military or government, but it does allow them to blend in with the general human populace.

Now, if I go with that line of thinking for the race, they would be technologically advanced and fairly powerful on their own; I'd probably set them up as another alien group which was opposed to the daam k'vosh / c'tan / slomon'khara - so they wouldnt really be concerned with fighting humans, but would be another alien race vying for power in this part of the galaxy. If I do decide to go with that idea, then they'll probably be unlinked from gaia and put somewhere out beyond the borderworlds in unexplored space - if the group is successful, then maybe when 4.86 comes around we can get a unique system added to the group and maybe even some unique ships for them. It will just take a lot of work to get to that point.
