As a Liberty lawful, what bothers me more is when i RP tractoring in an escape pod, right after someone fights to the death. As SOON as their ship blows up, and i SS the kill, i make sure to say something along the lines of tractoring escape pod, or something. But then, 99% of the time, the person is either quiet and logs, or they start talking in system chat about how they will get us next time or some business. Worst cases, the begin to talk about the fight ooc.

It is not hard to just say, okay you got my pod, what next. This has happened once to me, and i actually flew to LPI huntsville and docked, talking to the person the whole time.

And a 2 million fine is actually lower than the fine for an Adv. Train. For more than 1000 units, the fine is 4 million credits.

But sometimes, i will say 4 million, then in private ask for less, because i dont want to shut down smuggling so badly that it ceases to exist. Or if i can see that the character is poor or did not know smuggling was illegal.

WOW i had this exact thing happen to me like 2 weeks ago
I was surrounded by like 2 bombers a fighter and a GB

i was fully cooperative he asked me to fly towards the nearest tradelane and as i was slowly flying towards it he ordered an attack on me??

i was shocked seemed very oorp

and he had already disabled my guns and thruster (in RP) so it would be oorp of me to fight back

this needs to stop

Most often when on the end of a loosing battle i prefer being killed so i get my weapons back :D
Saves me the trip to the nearest suicide friendly planet or sun.
When a character is arrested certain circumstances might lead to his death, like not having
time to escort him because backup or a more dangerous target has made itself aware.
Either way, you can't always live. Deal with it since you only needs to click once to respawn.

PS. The only thing that really needs to stop is all the complaining from the overpopulated peanut gallery.

Sure, the police could bring you to a prison station, but that station is going to be hostile to you and youll be unable to dock, hence no arrest. At that point, the arresting officer would have to just let you go.

Blowing a ship up is the only way supported by game mechanics to stop a criminal.

I'm not saying that killing a surrendered criminal is good RP, but theres very few viable alternatives.

There are some alternatives.. They just seem to have faded out for one reason or another.

I remember when I first started on Disco, that the Liberty Officials (LN, LSF, LPI) would fine ships breaking Liberty laws. If the offender refused to pay a reasonable fine she/he was either banished from Liberty or in some cases killed ( depending on the crime, whether they tried to flee.. yadda yadda)
Criminals that escaped would have bounties placed upon them thus adding more people in to the role play.

Now it just seems to be a pew pew pew festival anytime I take a character into Liberty.
But I have noticed some changes back to the older ways & for the better from at least one of the Liberty factions, Kudos to them for trying to make things more in line with RP & crossing my fingers that the other factions take notice & follow suit.

Right now, Liberty is going through a crackdown on its lawfuls. I think the first and biggest step was the grounding of non-RPing capships. I have seen very few, but the few who have been grounded are really becoming a pain.

I think that Liberty is moving back in a better direction. But then again, it is the starting point for all new players, and they stick around, even if they know this is an RP server or not.

Also folks, rmember that the game engine has limitations, and that there are only so many ways to RP your way past them. It starts off creative, but when the same bypass is used a dozen times... well, it gets dull.

$4million is reasonable?

1000 bots/bats at $200 a pop is $200,000 plus illegal cargo. No matter what happens, you lose the cargo. Write that off straight away.
Now, if you refuse, you pay $200k for the bots and bats and get a free instant transit back to where you just came from or....pay $4 mill and get left alone?
I'm sorry but how many takers do you get...really?
Ever wonder why?

I think that LSF pilot had the right idea. I had no cargo, I was $2mill down and I had no chance of getting a quick cargo. I suppose I could have suffered the shame of suicide for instant transit to a good cargo pick-up but thats the point isn't?
He took my cargo AND fined me AND sent me back the way I had come with a flea in my ear. Made me feel like a naughty school boy, and I left school over 24 years ago.

@Chico Benitez:
The Liberty Laws are quite clear on the punishments for smuggling. The laws have been in place for quite a while, and this has never been much of an issue before.

You got caught, therefore you face the consequences. If it means that you must take more time to regenerate your lost income, then so be it. If your so concerned about paying these fines, simply become a lawful trader. Oh wait, but then you may get pirated too, which would cause the same problems.
