the term "abuse" labels players that use missiles primarily as nothing short as cheaters. - i think the terminology "abuse" is a bit strong there. - using missiles is no exploit of game mechanics.
it might be unfair.... but not an abuse.
if using multiple missiles is an abuse.... so is having guns - when your opponent has run out of ammo. - having ammoless weapons would be abusing game mechanics, too.... .
it would also be an abuse to fight a corsair huntress cruiser from the rear - or to keep a kusari destroyer CDed..... but we d call it "smart" and not abuse in that case.
There does seem to be missles everywhere lately. I don't have a problem except when non-vanilla ships are using them and only fighting vanilla ships because of their vulnerability. It seems it just pushes people away from using the most logical ships for their rp to a more marginal non-vanilla ship.
It isn't abuse per se as regards cheating, but it is abuse in regards to using game mechanics (knowingly or unknowingly) to your advantage. It's a simple fact that a non-Vanilla missile toting ship has a massive heads up on any Vanilla one. Now, this doesn't mean no non-Vanilla ships should equip any missiles if they are going to fight a Vanilla one. No, that's ridiculous, and asking far too much. What isn't asking too much is to equip and use accordingly to where you operate and who you fight.
I fly a Rogue Sabre (obviously), and most fighters operating in Liberty fly Vanilla ships as well. We've got the whole pirate line, that, while pretty useless anyways, is one choice of helm. Yes, there are Werewolves flying around. Then there's Outcasts or Rogues in Sabres, same deal. And don't forget the Xenos, whose only viable fighter is the Eagle. Again, Vanilla. Bombers obviously don't fall under this shroud, but really don't need to. After all, Liberty has its bomber and its VHFs (if piloted correctly) should be able to handle bombers anyway.
Liberty lawfuls ships now. Avenger, Guardian, Liberator. Peachy keen, if only that's where it ended. We've got the Raven's Claw, where lies the problem. I honestly have only run into one RC in all my time that wasn't equipping at least 2 missiles (this would be Titan's). Everyone else has either CB and FS, 'Lyzer CB and FS, a Sunny on the top, etc. More or less, every time. Really, I don't see much wrong with this, actually, but then you take into account their enemies' vessels. Nearly all Vanilla.
What would be nice is to show some restraint. If you have missiles on your RC while fighting a Vanilla, sure, oh well. But don't spam them to a ridiculous extent. Honestly, I've fought a chap a few times now who will fire missiles on every single attack run. No joke. And when he sees it isn't working due to my flailing attempt to stay out of the line of fire while still doing some kind of damage (a touch difficult when one hit will kill you), he fires off the Debs until my shields are down, then right on back to missile spam. In fact, he was losing once, so he literally made a cloud of nukes. 15+, honestly.
It's unavoidable, it just would be nice if a little restraint was shown. Why not equip a few RCs with full gun load-outs? No doubt they're excellent ships even without missiles, and when your enemies are Vanillas for the most part, you're not going to suffer some horrible disadvantage.
That's what it all comes down to these days, and usually fails at. Respect and restraint. Complaints like this wouldn't exist if people showed this.
' Wrote:With missiles, you can't really get better or improve or whatnot. It's just target, then fire.
With guns, there's so much room for improvement.
That is the most reassuring thing I've read all day.
Orin, would that happen to be that LSF guy we fought in the debris field a few days ago?
Not trying to do march into a roundabout trial by forum here, but it's a painfully valid example of how restraint needs to be shown.
Restraint is definitely a good thing. Hats off to whoever it was during the save Udo event who asked our less-vanilla-than-the-RM force to show restraint in using them in the fight. Once all ships are equal, it won't be an issue, but until then, listen to Orin. ;)
