First post in that very, VERY long thread has the link to ID's.
Hit F8 and your list of IFF's shows up. Go to any station, talk to the bartender, and it's possible he'll tell you that your reputation with (x) faction needs some improvement. Depending on what faction it is for you and how far into the red it is, he may say it'll cost anywhere from 5,000 credits to 920,000 to 'hack' your reputation with that faction. That then moves your rep up. When you get the bar fully green and then undock again, the rep at the bottom should start flashing and that's now your IFF.
The above is an example of a rep sheet - this one happens to be for my main trader. When you see his ship in space, it will read Interspace-APM-Sagittarius. (It's a long backstory on why APM transports have the Interspace IFF and ID - you can read it here if you're bored. http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?...pic=20770)
You only need 1 or 2 mining lasers on a ship - not 6 of them. Depends on where you're mining, mostly. Even out in some areas with non-mining ships, I've picked up 12 cargo with only 3 shots.
Regarding dying - just check the chat log. If you were under level 30, then it wasn't a player that did it. It'll probably say something to the effect of (X) was killed by a hostile vessel. Tends to mean you got owned by an NPC. Gotta watch that stuff.
Oh, and if you want to blend RP with PvP - keep an eye on the BHG. We have fun, and we can operate in all houses and space. No, we're NOT the Sirius police - and we're not PvP whores (well, some of us are, but hey, that's any faction).

The mining bonuses aren't active for iridium, and maybe some other commodities as well.
System chat broadcasts to every player in the system, and is shown in light blue. Local chat only broadcasts to everyone in your sensor range, and is in dark blue text.
So, how do i know if the mining bonuses are working or not? and why would the same field in my server give 9 per tractor and the official server give 1 per tractor? and why should I only have 2 instead of 6? don't each of them give a stacking bonus?(according to what Ive read)
"1) Mining lasers are a new item added to the game, these will increase your mining yield. Simply having them mounted is not sufficient, you must actually use them."
What does actually use them mean? just blasting rocks right?
btw, that guy I was talking about that was screwing with me( by shooting me and then saying sorry). I woke up today and one of my friends said that the same guy rammed him to death while he was mining, then when my friend came back, he was mining again and the guy just came up and kept tractoring all his ore. Its unfortunate I didn't know it was required to screenshot that stuff
About the mining bonuses: They're FLhook things. Not sure if you had them on your server at all. Each individual minable field has a specific multiplier, they're all on, but most aren't particularly high. When you find one that is high, you'll be getting drops of 40-50 from each asteroid (I'm guessing you didn't have the mining plugin on your server)...I suggest the stokes field in Leeds, or the Vohne Rhoe belt. in Omega 11.
The stacking is between having a miner's ID, a mining ship, and mining lasers, not how many lasers you have.
Ore stealing is a form of piracy, and is acceptable. The rest of that stuff is not cool, and by messing with an underlevel (40) charachter anyway, he'll get sat on if its reported. Shouldn't be done.
