Recession means 2 or more consecutive quaters of declining output (i.e. negative growth) which is not the same thing as spending more than you earn at all (that's just debt. Or a budget deficit).

I believe what he is getting at is the fact that people are spending more money than they can make, thus bankruptcy is inevitable (in the real world, in Disco people just trade more.) and people will loose money as a result of all the failures.

I would like to have a statistic on how many times a budget deficit leads to Bankruptcy. But I don't.

I'm no professional but I think that's what it is.

Also, it would only be a recession if we bought more fuel efficient vehicles, which Rhineland has not. Also if a pirate killed you on your last chance to make money. You would have to downgrade, thus negative growth.

I generally spend below 10 and make something like that as well, if not a bit more. And if it is more, I generally don't notice or care...

So, whilst I applaud your methods, you should reverse your conclusion - this healthy consumer spending means we're in a boom time! The recession will come when, eventually, the people spending more than they earn run out of money, IND will start losing their vast credit reserves by giving dodgy loans to everyone, plunging us into a financial crisis in which people stop spending things altogether.

Unless, of course, you are examining the npc economy which is the inverse of ours, in which case us earning less than we spend means the npcs must be doing the opposite. Or possibly not. Economics is complicated stuff. Don't jump to conclusions.

Hey! I never jumped to conclusions!

Well I dunno much about economics yet, I'm just 15. But I do sort of get what you mean, if people are spending more, then the people who make the products (like all the ships and commodities) are probably earning more money.

But the basic point of this thread/poll is to see whether the average Sirian is earning or losing money.

I spend what i earn. Sometimes i do then earn what i've spent. You could call that investment. And sometimes the investment goes bye bye cause of pirates and they will earn what i've spent. And they spend it to themselfs to get better pewpew so they can shoot me faster. Generally it means if i got nothing to earn, i can't spend and pirate will nothing earn from me either. Uhm..where was i?

I have about ~2mil left over from what I make a week (less than 500mil for make/spend)

I spend like 200mil alone just mucking with my Juggernaut in Connecticut, and changing its weapons loadout..

Sirius is in recession as there are just few routes being used all over again.
