Till someone says otherwise you just make a ship, and send it as a .cmp and a .mat to Igiss and if he aproves its in the mod. It is a good idea to post pics and whatnot before you finish it though

Gmax is simple and easy, but limited. Maya is better, but the Control Interface is a bit tougher. THEN you have to start paying for them...

The final .cmp and .mat files are made in a program called Milkshape. Lancersreactor has all required files to make the .cmp and .mat, they also have tutorials and additional help forums there. I suggest using one of the tutorials first just to get a feel for what needs to be done.

If you already do 3D modeling, see if you can import the model into Milkshape. I do my modeling in Maya and import it into Milkshape. If you do it this way there is usually some trial and error to get the importing/exporting to work properly.

If you first get the modeling to work, the next step is texturing. It can be outsourced to a texturer, such as Yuri Neova, if you have the credits and they are willing. Otherwise you need to either follow the tutorial or teach yourself.

Hope that helps.

Anal Retentive moment:

To design a ship, all you need is a pencil, bit 'o paper and a scanner, or Microsoft Paint et al.

To MODEL a ship, you can use Milkshape, GMax, 3DS Max, Maya, Rhino, [the list is endless].

If you just want to design then scrible down a drawing and hope for the best.
