It's ok. Lets face it, people here use skype for the same reason why a lot of people play Discovery: because everyone else uses it/does it. IRC would not be any better than skype for this (aside from the lack of immense CPU usage like skype likes to have), Xfire seems a bit cumbersome to me at times, and Steam is just pointless as anything other than a game launcher for games that you buy through it.

Though if it was my preference I guess I'd use Xfire seeing as it has the most useful functions for online gaming and is the least obtrusive. Oh well, you won't change the community.

Both are great, I find Xfire more useful for game media reccording/MSN. I just Steam for the rest, in game chat (Steam bought or not) 1v1 or Group and voice. Works really well and I find much smoother interface then xfire.

Skype has become the standard as it provides a great deal. Without Skype I probably wouldn't know a good bit of the Brotherhood or RepEx members as much as I do now. Been using for 2 years with Freelancer proved very useful.
Group Chats, 1v1 Chats, Chat Logs, good quality voice, better organization overall when it comes to grouping/keeping tabs of chats (Not having to join numerous group chats with say Steam or Xfire) plus as a IM its instant and you do not have to rely on say forum messaging/waiting for email alert, or waiting till they are in game. Organize events with members so your on more. Or make fairer events.

Hmm so why you made that topic if you already decaided that you don't want to use it?
Nevermind, believe me, forum is not enought to communicate on faction level. Yeah I know skype sucks. I don't like it to, but it's usefull... I will not copy here all arguments which others said before. Everything what they said is true and probably I can add some more. Communication via forum or in-game is simply not enought. I think that you must understand that playing in MMO games with small or large community demands to use other software. Like for example Photoshop. Your skills in that software helps you in game right? - you earnig money thanks to that and others have awesome signatures or transmissions bars or something else. The same is with skype.

Btw, you using Facebook to communicate with others right? It suprised me that you have problem with using skype then...

Well, maybe I'm semi-sociopath:Pand I do not talk to people in FB, I just log-in there for time to time.
but I do not have chat, or talk with them.

I'd rather use instant messaging or IRC than joining a social network.

In fact, I'd rather use email than social network.
