'Cept that ship lights don't work at all in nebulae. Once you cross the border from open space into a cloud, your lights disappear.
At least, that's how it works for me. I'm assuming the same happens to everyone.
No not really, a Firefly is not truely black itself so you will see a faint outline of it. Those who know what there looking for, ie just the shape of it, will see it. Practicing this skill will make it easier for you to see the shapes in those sort of situation's, plus the engines would also give away a ship at distance too, very likely on a Firefly due to its engine layout too.
Do have to agree clouds do dim lights, but a strobing brite white light is much easier to spot at 2k then a small white light, maybe seen at 400metres in the same cloud. In regards your scanner is much more reliable in clouds.
Bla my ALG ship uses bright orange lights because it wants to be seen. The lights fit his RP,as he transports waste. Sort of like"look out, waste is coming"
Pimp lights are awesome. I agree completely with the meant to be seen aspect of it. 80% of a trader's time is spent flying in lawful areas, often times with high volume traffic. Being seen is important in situations like these. I also follow the same light setup for most of my ships as international ship lights here; at least one green on starboard and one red on port side.
As for the piracy of Zoners, it depends. I pirate them on my GC all the time if they are supplying or buying from Kusari. I'll also tax them if they're just moving high value stuff through as well. Of course, we don't use them at all other than as a RARE independent meeting place so, it makes sense.
For a faction that runs supplies from them like Corsairs (i think) perhaps it would be a terrible idea.
I couldn't careless about lighting on your ships. Its a personal choice and one which won't amount to you being pirated every time you un dock.
As for pirating Zoners. I'm rarely pirated on my Zoner, though that is the result of multiple things. The first being that my faction does a great job at our diplomacy. That is, we use the word to win our battles. The second thing being that we supply most of the people in the areas we trade in. That doesn't mean we don't get pirated, there are the Rogues, the Hogosha, indy Outcasts, indy pirates, etc etc. It just that we don't always end up paying when stopped, we talk our way out of it, offer our services, etc etc.
This is a mixed bag. I utterly hate when a pirate type passes me by with just a few words. I like being stopped and chatting most of the time. It is lovely because I don't really have to worry to much when I trade though. Like I said, double edged sword.
Quote:Also, I ran into a guy who basically told that because he had a Zoner ID/IFF that he wouldn't get pirated.
What do you say pirates of Disco?
Really, it depends. If the player is hauling a RP cargo to a Freeport, is factionized, can speak proper English and shows at least some willingness to RP, then he's fine by me. But people that go "I'm a Zonur you can't pirate me" as soon as they are CDed aren't going to last long.
