I remember when I was a noob (check my join date) and, while my fighting/RP abilities have vastly improved since I've joined, I think everyone is a noob, and if they're not, then they can think back to when they were one. I say give the little guys a break, people, or I may just hunt you down, kill you, and piss on your ancestors' collective graves.

Hi all, due to a very high ping, i dont get to play much, so when I come on, if the ping keeps me lagging, i usually just get off, and SP. the reason for that, is I live 10 miles south of town, in a valley, no cable. only phone lines, and I have satellite Internet. some days I can play for hours no problem, others, forget it.
On some days, I am able to play without lag, so I play the heck out of it. lol
I noticed trying to play the PVP server, it will kick me for High Ping, nice pretty green at that....
as for the afor mentioned SP missions of Freelancer, the farthest I have been able to get in it, is the hi jacking of the transport in Honshu.
right after you destroy the two missle platforms, everyone becomes friendly, even though they are red!
so when you kill a KNF, the game stops, says you killed a friendly.
I've tried getting by this, by not killing anyone, just zooming around and keeping my ship a hard to hit target, and still got the flag! Even though I killed no one!
Now this is playing the SP with Discovery running.
replace the DLL's and Vanilla SP plays fine for me. I keep a spare set of original DLL's in the Freelancer Folder in Program Files, in a Folder named that, 'Extra DLL's,
Name thing, I have had that problem even with the Vanilla Servers, I like the name 'rim runner', seems there are others who like it too, but there is no check for a duplicate name on some, on others there is.
PVP, I'm lousy at it, prefer to trade. the beauty of Freelancer. ya dont have to kill if you dont want to.
So if some NOOB killed ya, let the world know. seeing the responses here, It is not acceptable.
Speaking of EVE, been playing there some also, a 14 day free trial been going for a month or so now, and there is a clan there named 'NERF', i have a character named 'Nerf Herder', and couldn't get thier system to take that name, now i know lol.
it is unerving to see 40,000 players on line at the same time! and with over 5000 solar systems to explore. a bit steep in price for me at $14.99 a month to play. but they must be doing something right.

But it annoys me when people make silly comments about that... especially brits who for the most part can't speak their own language let alone anyone elses!
Hmmmm as far as the newbie killing goes it may have been a mistake. Most people on this site who have played a bit know the rules....unless yeah ...it was a fellow newbie. Stick with it mate, it will pick up.....and as far as bad experiences go, there will be people that will help you out also...it all pans out in the end. And watch who you shoot...as a newbie you may still get busted up if you shoot the wrong person. (They're entitled to return fire).
Yeah..folks can suck. It's an online game so..thats life. Just try to have fun.
And if you see any of my characters online, please send me a pm if you need help with anything. I've always got some spare credits or a friendly word or 2. Well.....now that I think about it..if you pm me as =LSF=Serpico...there is a good chance I wont be able to respond. Everytime I log on with him I'm busy. I need to ask Sniper for a raise. Only problem i have with newbies is when they just come in the game without reading rules and start shooting everybody...
Or better, when they have read the rules but dont seem to understand them, and when you try to explain them they say you are cheating and that they'll report you and then just log off...
As a fellow New guy i wanted to write down my impressions as well - I've only been on the server for maybe a week and a half now - not a long time compared to those who have been here for years i know - I've been on a lot though in the time I've been here (I'm on holidays!) and have seen a real cross-section of the community.
I first started playing Freelancer years ago when it first came out - its fair to say, as others did, that i played it for literally hundreds of hours - then i didn't touch it for a couple of years. But i was completly new to this Mod.
I would agree that the changes to the NPC's make it hard for a new player... its kindof no fun to be stuck slaving away on mining runs in Liberty for a few thousand when any kind of ship and its gear that is going to really allow you to participate with other (human) players - and for that matter, survive against most NPCs - starts at over a million... actually I'd start new guys off with more money - but thats just me.
Overall though, my initial impressions of the mod and more to the point, the community were positive... i was helped by some cool people, who devoted their time and their money to helping me learn how things worked here - those people were cool, and also, i have to say, the Admins' on the server have been very helpful the few times I've needed help - i don't like bothering them to be honest, i know they must get lots of annoying questions, and im pretty sure some of mine could be in that category - but those guys always help out. I can't fault the way this server has been run, or the professionalism and tolerance of those guys.
I've met some cool people on here the last couple of weeks that have really made it worthwhile to come back - people who try to RP well in what they do and say, and play fair.
Given the example i got, id like to think that id help out a new guy as well.
All that being said - there have been some negatives - some players I've experienced are just elitist, with a "I've been here longer than you and thus i am better than you in all ways" attitude (blah blah)- to the point on one occasion, where I've just been ignored, and also had that oh-so-grating-gamer-insult of "noob" levelled at me once or twice (in game , i was probably doing something dumb - but it's always encouraging when you're still figuring things out)
I'm not in a Clan... and to be honest, I'm not sure I'm inclined to join one - While i know some Clans put a lot of time and effort into what they do, their rules and try hard to RP - The attitude of some people in clans to those who aren't is just pure snobbery. It can also come across as just childish; I was witness to an in system open channel argument recently between two "clans" about who was more "legit" and who had approval on the forums and who didn't... none of which was obviously in Role Play (RP was one of the things that made me try this server). Maybe there is a case for that kind of argument in the server rules, im sure there is somewhere... but having it in game? it started to take on the tone of 2 kids saying "its my ball! no its MY ball"....
These things though, have really been the minority for me, on the whole, I've enjoyed my first few weeks on the server and am hoping that when i go back to work ( i work in China) i can still log on and access it (access to anything in China is hit and miss - gotta love that great firewall) - I've actually encouraged a mate of mine who also used to play Freelancer way back when to download the mod and try it out - So, on the whole... sure its not perfect - but Its been fun and i'd recommend it if asked!
