Just give the Mods some ingame power. They already watch the forums, so why not give them some power ingame to.
Anyone thinking of being an admin though should really REALLY think hard on it. It is not fun, it is an unpaid job, where alot of people will hate you. You will lose alot of ingame time, and get stuck doing stuff you really do not want to do, or enjoy. Been there, done that in another game. It is soooo not fun. Also you get power yes, but you can not use it at will. You also at times need to punish friends, and this will sometimes make then no longer friends. So i will repeat myself. Think very long and hard if you are thinking of offering your name up.
' Wrote:On a slightly related note, I've actually been seeing a lot more admins serverside recently. I like this very much, keep up the good work! There seems to be almost constant [Admin] coverage of my timezone, but I'm not so sure about the other timezones. I think in-game Admins is a great thing, and hope it keeps up.
I saw an admin tag once and only once. But im in an obscure timezone I think, That part were server activity drops substantially, Yeah, That's me coming online, Everyone cant be bothered talking to me so they log off, That's my theory anyway.
But on a more realistic note, I see admins in my timezone, There flying there ships having fun, I say kudo's to most of them. Theres a couple of old admin ships I havn't seen, And what happened to dustylens?
And people like

Who had the RP experience of thousands, and all the time in the world to share it, I mourn the loss of such people of days gone by.

I don't know about the hate part, I think (No personal insult to you) that's dependent on how you conduct yourself. The admins used to spend alot of time in forums, I remember great respect for cannon and others, and some not so much liked.
I still see some here disliked, While others are revered, I have seen admins apologising for mistakes, I also see others who refuse to be wrong.
I see admins that read posts before the lock comes down, and others that read the first couple and make a snap decision. Its kind of humourous when they say "Locked because X reason" And everyone who reads the post knows X reason wasn't there in the first place.
But i sure as hang don't blame them. As you pointed out, It's a burden, and it's a recipe for grey hairs.
Actually, Back in the day, Especially cannon from memory, used to come in game and mix it up, It was nearly always a good time. (When an admin cannon hits you, you don't get time to know about it.)
Now... I don't know what they do, I just hope they enjoy whatever it is they do, Because without em, Ill have to go back to a 5 man lan server.

Having had a bit of time serving as a mod, then an admin for a while, then again as a mod, I feel qualified to state not only no, but "oh HELL NO!" Don't get me wrong...I'm a huge proponent of the practice of grouping forum violations with server punishments, but that's about as far as it goes. While the Admins also moderate the forums as is their prerogative, Our M.O. as mods is to watchdog the forums as best we can so that the 'mins don't have to...but when it comes to server stuff, that's simply not our department & shouldn't be. Much like when I mentioned that an admin agrees to all the jobs burdens, the mods job is to agree to stick strictly to forum related stuff. If we started doing Admin duties, we would cease to be mods & become admins.
...Then we would have no mods & the forums would cry out "WE NEED MORE MODS OR DISCO WILL DIE THE DEATH OF A THOUSAND FINAL NAILS!"
I agree with Marburg's stance on it. Forum Moderators need to watch the forums. They're here to kind of keep an eye on things on the forum rather than things in game. Watching the forums is a full time job in and of itself really. If you give Moderators powers in game, what's that make them? Admins. So then what are we short on? Forum Moderators.
If you've got Mods doing other things as well, the state of the forums would decline. Trust me when I say we've got enough admins. I would rather stab myself in the foot than become an admin, myself. Too much work. If anything I'd volunteer for Forum Moderator since I'm on the forums more than in game these days (that's just me though).

You fear oblivion. Yet you forget. The universe remembers every atom of your being. Even dust hums your name in the dark. Roleplay is dead. Long live Powertraders and PvP I guess.
