So, you zoom in and it auto-aims for you? Or, you zoom in, making the other ship take up a larger portion of your screen and it's easier to hit? I guess I'm failing to see how zooming in makes every shot hit, since you still would need to aim...

Zoom out enough and the reticle will hardly move. Then just let the in-built auto aim take over.

There was a thread about this
http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?sh...=108345&hl=

In my opinion, zoom should be available only for ships of gunboat class and larger, but even so zooming range must be heavily reduced.
As a gunboat pilot i can add that turret steering alone is enough if you have good aiming skills.

P.S. Kudos to Swallow for taking into account other opinions.

I deal with a lot of people with anger management issues. When they see me, they are either running with their smuggled stuff or pirates in the middle of killing someone. Doesn'€™t leave a whole lot of room for me to sit down with them and have a lovely chat over tea.

Oddly, I'€™ve had better RP with Corsairs than most anyone else. You know the guys who eat people. I expected it the other way around.

Anyway back to TZ, I would like to see how the TZ works on a fighter again. With mostly guns that are not turrets, I never found it as effective as a GB TZ. I thought they got rid of it because it didn'€™t really work.

On the other hand, I'€™m better with a light fighter than a bomber or fighter. I never had to use TZ when it was out. I'€™m also a missile guy.

Sometimes, when all you want is to gain your freedom, you must be willing to risk it all.

In a space-shooting game? No way. :nono:

Damn shame it's for nothing.

See, there was a time when something called skill was required to win.

But then, disabled or lazy people were always at a disadvantage.

You know, the other day, it took all my effort to bring down a werewolf in my guardian. A werewolf who was flying like a retarded goat but somehow hit every single shot with his archangels. Of course, there is a counter to TS and I figured it out, but that much effort isn't worth it.

Oh well, off to bind the rest of my TS keys.
You are talking like skill has become irrelevant or something. Didn't you get pwned by people with worse aim before?

I don't know how making your guns hit automatically is making skill more relevant?

A tad.

See Dieter's avatar.

' Wrote:When the gun fire starts the RP is pretty much over, other than sticking to PVP rules. It'€™s the events before and after a PVP where the RP can get into it.

Incorrect. Combat is an element of roleplay.

' Wrote:Fighters and bombers, I believe cant TZ so it'€™s not an issue.

At present fighters and bombers can use turret zoom. However as I understand it this is an error and it will be removed from the small ships again.

My issue with turret zoom is that it makes gunboats overpowered. Not having to aim your guns, when said guns move at such an absurdly high speed, means they are overpowered against smaller vessels, as the manueverability advantage is reduced significantly. Not removed, but reduced.

I will make a guess that you fly a lot of gunboats, correct?

Transports are not an issue to the same extent, as they have inferiour shielding and are still extremely easy meat for bombers. Frankly, transports needed some form of boost, and they got it with TZ.

' Wrote:Most RP happens here, in the forums. Many people don'€™t have the stomach to RP in game, just run away or PVP. When there is RP in game it -leads- to PVP.

When the talking is done, TZ activate!

Incorrect again, the vast majority of roleplay happens in game.

To sum up:

I would suggest that turret zoom for gunboats is reduced to a certain distance. I would also suggest, (given that makes aiming easier) that GB gun speed is reduced. they will still be highly effective against smaller vessels, but not overpowered as they are at present, while not having any impact on GB vs GB combat, or GB vs cap combat.

Fighters/bombers should not be able to use zoom at all. At present they can, I believe this is a mistake which will be corrected.

As it stands, fight between gunboats and smaller vessels are a boring boring boring boring boring boring stalemate, unless the fighters choose to break said stalemate. You simply sit a distance out of range and prevent the gunboats from leaving using disruptors, or you get in range of the auto-aim guns. Choice is simple, no?

Turret zoom on gunboats promotes a sort of stand-off fight. Denial of area, rather than combat. This is boring.

That's assuming everyone uses turret zoom. Honestly, I don't want to use it on my gunboat. I wanna just keep playing as I've always played it. Then people who don't want to use this end up... where exactly?
