Meh, more story to come, haven't gotten around to it, though. Guess it's up to the top of my list, now. I usually need some goading to get stuff like this done.

Personally, I consider the nanobots as emergency repairs that would be taken care of properly once the ship is landed, like a spare tire in a car. Something that will keep you from getting stranded without being able to fly. The game portrays it quite well, even if you land with the ships "HP" full after a fight, you'll still have to fix this or that. Otherwise the ship will start really breaking apart.

I have a defector from kruger(or was it dauman, I forget) who joined the RHA and still has a Rhienland bomber. He keeps it because the Red Hessian bomber is made of similar parts and he can keep it repaired(although the lack of weapons means he dosnt use rhienland weapons).

Depends if you deploy them or not. They aren't automatic.
This is where restraint comes in. How long can you last without botting?
Restraint or ducktape. which ever works.

You want RP, here it come :

"nanobots are programmed depending on the ship they should repair to allow the main thruster to work and the hull to keep its integrity until the end.
While defection, you brought as much Sabre-programmed nanobots as you could, but their program can't be copied (too small (nano) to connect, their program is written while production) and you'll loose them each time you use some..."

OK for gentle RP, OK for gentle PvP too. What do you prefer ?

Aww, and here I thought Nanobots scanned the design of the ship before initiating repairs. Oh well.

Thanks for the answers, everyone.

Waitaminute. While eating cereal today, an idea came to me. What if the former-Outcast had some sort of supply-line? Maybe a smuggler he employed to keep him stocked with Sabre-programmed Nanobots or even spare parts?

If I could get another PC to co-operate with me, would this work?

*steps up on Soapbox*

In my perfect little simulationist world people would switch out ships every time they get blown up, but you know what? Screw it? In this game a character's most immediate, physical identity is his or her ship. There is no getting out and interacting on planets, the only thing visible to others besides your name, tag and equipment is your ship. Hence, a characters ship is a big part of that character's individuality. In our perfect simulationist world that character would die a considerable amount of the time when he gets shot down, ejection seats are NOT perfect by any standard, but he doesn't. I think losing a ship should have to be a major event in a forum Roleplay, and characters should only have to change ship as a plot device in the aforementioned. Individuality is important, you know, and making something recognizable should be a lasting thing.

Allow some customization on ships with cosmetic modules. Would also double as armour plating somewhat. Would require all current ships to be altered for hardpoints however.
