Then we can change the message for something like this:

The language spoken in this server is English only. If you don't speak it, get lost.

Counter Strike server rule style. Short and to the point.:P

This is a situation that calls for tough love. If they REALLY want to play on this server that badly, then they can learn English. I know it sounds heartless, but there ARE other servers for other world languages.

Admins who do not speak another language will have a hard time knowing what the rules in that other language actually say.

The only way this would work is to have a committee of several players translating the rules and reviewing them to make sure they mean the same thing as the English version. That level of work is impractical.

If the rules are published in different languages, we'd inevitably hear : "The rules may say that in English, but they don't say it in ________."

Also, it is not always possible to say in language X what you can easily say in language Y, so some of the rules would inevitably have to be changed somehow to accomodate the idiomatic differences. That would essentially create different versions of the rules.

All of this would lead to greater confusion, not less. It would also allow players to argue for loopholes that exist only in their language's version of the rules, and the Admins who don't speak that language would be unable to dispute it.

A common language is the only way to insure that everyone is following the same set of rules.

Exactly the point, which is why we're suggesting telling people that "This is an English speaking server" in languages other than English- if they don't speak English and don't realize this, they won't know until they start getting sanctioned, and might not even then.

EDIT: Xoria has a point. I'm all for only translating 3.3, and I can confirm that the Spanish one says stuff correctly. Gronath's one looked right too, but then again its been awhile since I've done anything with Portuguese.

EDIT2: Just to keep things on the safe side in case someone gets skeptical, I confirm this:

Quote:3.3 Todos los mensajes en chat deben escribirse en un ingles comprensible, salvo que sea un chat privado y los dos miembros conozcan el idioma usado.

To say:

All messages in chat should be written in understandable English, unless in a private chat and both members of that chat know the language used.

Compared to the server rule itself:

Quote:3.3 All messages in chat must be in understandable English, unless the chat is private and both members know the language being used.

Which is about as close as its going to get.

Because the 3.3 is only in English right now, players who don't speak english don't know that they can't be here until they're sanctioned. If they're able to read it in the rules before they even start playing, then we won't have to deal with them.

If they can't read English, then how are they going to manage to find the Server rules thread to begin with, and then search through the x number of foreign language translations to find the One Sentence that they can understand? If they can't read English, then why would they bother to even try? If I was playing on a Russian server and forum, I'd take 10 seconds, decide I couldn't read Russian, and never look through any of the forum again.

Actually, the idea was to buzz these as console messages because you're right, a lot of people would do that. Telling them game-side will do that bit of "shoot, I don't know this language" on the server as opposed to just the forums, which is what we want, yes? Speak English or don't play, for the sake of all involved?

I'm all in for translating the above mentioned rules ONLY

And guys, Even some people have never heard "Chat" of their lives, translate it

French translation (made it as precise as I could):

Is equal in english to:
All conversations(chat) on the server must be in English, unless the member(s) of one or some conversation(s)(chat) consent the usage of an other language than English.

(Still the same meaning, but it is much more precise)

Wonder if that suggestion has already been made in the past, but there could be an RP solution regarding some of the languages. I mean it should be natural, that german would be spoken in Rheinland/Hessian territory, or Spanish in Outcast/Corsair Territory, or probably even Chinese/Japanese (but wonder if that would cause server trouble) in Kusari Space.
I dont mean "lets make this the official languages there", but why not making a rule which advices players capable of speaking those languages while not capable of speaking english well enough to contact Clan/faction "xyz" in space "xyz" for further introduction. Within those groups the appropiate language can be spoken (group channel). Those groups of players should have spokesmen (capable of english) who will be the person to be contacted if someone caused trouble and/or language obstacles occur. That'd preferably be neutral players.

The Rules could be translated into those languages and modified to point out that hint
Im Sorry that this wouldnt be a sloution for everyone.
Im german btw and i speak english fluently (and i would translate the rules).
