Well, I think these are quite nice looking.

Update!

I added Cores 3 and 4 to the OP. I also discovered the [p3d] tag. For Core 5, I'm planning to add two more docking bays. I've already got a good spot picked out for them, just need to get them modelled.

YES. GOOD.

The only thing that I have to comment upon is that the transition from Core 3 to Core 4 seems a bit underwhelming compared to the rest. Perhaps there could be solar panels, or some other module, in addition to the smaller tanks?

But, I so want to see these implemented.

That's a good point. My original idea was to add the habitation modules one at a time at levels 3 and 4, but I decided to keep things symmetrical instead. The tanks were the only thing I could think off off-hand, but I might add some stuff to the top of the habitats, too. Maybe a vanilla-style solar panel or large dish or something. Probably both.

You could also have something coming out from one of the ports in the back. That's still symmetrical, but also adds depth to the station.

Possibly make that the Core 3 upgrade, even? And then Core 4 could be the big crew modules? That way it's growing in a different direction for each core upgrade.

This is true. I'm planning to save that for levels 6-10, though. I know the mod's currently only using 5, but there's 10 in the files, and any viable replacement's going to need them in case they decide to implement the higher levels.

My internet is really slow and I can't load the main page now.

Now, with that out of the way, this has my attention. The PoB rework I've been doing for some time now has a whole host of new features. Among them is multi-model support. This means that there are new PoB classes that function the same but have a different base model. So, for example, this PoB remodel you are doing above would be Freeport Class (or w/e, you get the idea).

Along with this, things like storage is now an external module of it's own, and bases don't increase in storage capacity with each Core level, so you might want hold off adding too many storage containers and the like to any models you make. It would also be pretty cool if you could do some 1-4 models of various different aesthetics - like a Gallic, or Kusarian, kind to name a couple examples.

Once you have these hardpointed and sorted, would you mind sending me them to me to use in testing?

* Small disclaimer: I'm not an official dev for the game and what I say isn't ever final - it just refers to what is already done as part of the planned rework.

I will agree that the difference between Core 3 and 4 is a little less noticeable. I'm also not quite a fan of the box additions on the Core 3 where they are currently, since in my mind, they block a lot of the view from the "windows" on the big upper disc portion of the model. The rectangular boxes would look better if they were perhaps hanging down vertically; perhaps add an additional downward "turn strut" to make the boxes semi-level with the storage tanks? That's just me, though.

Perhaps for the Core 5 model, some sort of custom self-service repair attachment could be included? Core 5s have their W&T disabled, so representing that visually would be pretty neat; perhaps give the repair attachment a miniature solar panel setup similar to the current Core 4 model.

Yeah, going to toss in my two dollars (inflation)

So, I really, really like 1 and 2 the radial symmetry makes great sense for a space station, the style in which it expands feels very organic, but I don't feel as though 3 captures the scaling up that 1-2 did. Three has as much more mass as 2 added to 2, but not the complexity of mass?

And four, on those same lines, seems even less of an expansion of the base from 3-4 than 3 was from 2. So, why does it feel like upgrading your core gets you diminishing returns?

I'd go so far as to suggest swapping the central cylinder for the bigger, rounder cylinder at some point, and possibly stacking another ring segment. Another thing you can do is extend the conning tower from the top, like many bases do as mooring-points. Later, a base can grow towers around it, like the kusari bases often have.

You can keep it a narrow rod, and keep adding height and slowly thickening it, or you can go for big spokes and rings, but I'd really suggest maintaining a general sense of radial symmetry.

Of course, if we go to a 1-10 core size system, then 3 and 4 being less huge improvements is likely fine. Scaling always feels different on different scales.

Keep up the great work here!
