most of them are - and its usually a good compromise of workload and result. - a lot of the hitboxes match the models good enough that someone ingame wouldn t notice anything about it. - when you look at them in the hardCMP, things are different - and you may say "ahh, thats why i allways missed you" - but most hitboxes do fit well.
take into account that very often, you fire indirectly on a ship ( the crosshair ) and you don t really aim at the ship itself ( except in head on head situations ) - some players might aim for the ship itself - successfully, but i think most of the players try to hit the crosshair.
once you hit the crosshair though - the guns will autoaim. so they ll try to hit the center of the ship anyway. - so in most of the situations, its not really as important as it might seem sometimes that a hitbox matches the model perfectly - cause the guns will attempt to autoaim at the center anyway - instead of some gap between wings and body. - however shots can still miss that might have hit a part of the ship - but its not as serious as it seems.

Yes they will try to hit the center of the ship. If it moves more than some threshold from the predicted point the autoaim is lost and most important the convergency point of the guns will be on a different place => the guns that are further from the center of your ship will hit/not hit the edges of the ship... IF it has hitbox there.
You get the nice situations like firing a SN from very close against a Raven Claw => since it moved towards you and the SN is on your wing, the convergency point will be behind the ship => it should either miss or hit the wings => but RC doesn't have a hitbox there so it will either fly trough... or hit the guns that "hang in space".
It certainly does "feel" bad when you SEE the shots fly trough the model.
The lower the gun speed and the more out of center your guns are the bigger the problem is - try a Havoc with 4 Magma hammers ;)
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.

It uses nomad gunboat hitbox. But since ship is never used (see faction post) there is no problem with it either, I don't think there are any left in hands of players since 4.83, most of them ended up at Temple of Revenant magically transformed into starfliers. :-) Nomad cruiser will be replaced with a different ship: new model and new hitbox in 4.85.
You can't see hitboxes for 3db files in HardCMP, they don't have Root element. But you can see them via CMP + SUR importers, not a trivial task though.
