Should a recommended ship list exist?

But I will take that road if it means theres a small opportunity for him to learn. I will never give up on someone. Nether should anyone else.

People must understand that logic is a point of view that people will spend there whole lives trying to change others logical perception. For what point? To exchange Ideas and come up with a new views IE "LEARNING!!!"

Everyone can learn. It's is the lack willingness to work with others is humanities greatest evolutionary flaw.

In any case, Akuma, I would like you to send me a PM with your issues. All of them--having to do with Discovery or otherwise. I'm not one to judge, and can give you suggestions on how to deal with troubles. I'll, at the very least, listen. And I promise complete confidentiality, from admins and all. I am not an admin, but I have gotten past childish flame fests like is going here.

Rob, everybody's tried talking to this guy, and he won't get it. He's EARNED a good tarring and feathering. I come on here every damn day of my life trying to take my mind off of the pressures RL presents and here he is, sitting on the Portal like a big ugly zit, insulting everything that I as a faction leader stand for and refusing to listen to any kind of sense or even shut up when he's obviously lost. It is my duty as the chief politician of my faction to burn all of our political opposition into the ground. I figure eventually he'll get the idea that he's an idiot and leave, but while I have him here in my way I might as well verbally abuse him in every legal way I can; I figure I'm going to put up with his BS I should get my money's worth, yes? I'm more than happy to participate in a discussion where logic is present, but this guy's mad! I've probably gotten an eighth of my post count just yelling at this boy, and that is NOT a small number. Almost ALL of his post count (I take it back. ALL of it, period) is devoted to threads attacking factions in some form or another. When you have a member like that there's a problem and I don't think I can be blamed for venting my steam back at the thing that's caused it. Sorry, but I'm just so sick and tired of this BS I'd really rather have left this godforsaken hole a few months ago, but I have a job to finish here, and he's making it considerably more difficult. HE HAS BEEN BANNED FOR ACTIONS RELATED TO THIS ATTITUDE. There's a problem there.

Ignore him. I can't give you any other suggestions. If he gets under your skin, find another way to deal with it other than flames. They ARE against the rules. I don't care what he's done to you, if he's looking for a fight, you're giving it to him. If his arguments have been beaten, there is nothing more you can do. Just stay calm in your responses, if you think you're starting to flame... Write the post and just change the page. Let it disappear. You're trying to put out fire with gasoline...

I think Virus has the right idea honestly no need for flames from either side it won't solve anything anyway it's just bad for the server as a whole.

As far as the original list I won't use it as I see ship choices as basicly common sense but it can't hurt as a rough guide as some ships aren't totally clear cut. Probably better for it to exist than not.

Back to the main point, the only reason there is a faction approved middle on that list is to make the factions feel bigger than they are, bigger than they deserve to be. And that's just wrong no matter how you slice it.

The ships in the yellow part of the list can be gained by some simple means:

1. Asking the official faction that makes them
2. Writing down RP reasons why and how you got the ship.

You don't NEED THE FACTION APPROVAL. And it's NOT AGAINST THE RULES, to use yellow ships. OK?

What can happen is that the official faction would not like you using it without asking yes. But they can only sanction you in-RP in game.

I suggest you actually go trough the chart and check what ships are yellow to what IDs.

For example the GCs you mentioned do have BD fighter as yellow.

Why? "...hiding the technology even from their pirate brethren.." So no it's not normal for GCs to use them.

You might also notice that the official factions are in a way the most limited group on the list (surprise). Since I suggested that they should only be allowed to use the Green ships.

I've been looking at the list and I have to say it's going to be very helpful. I wish I had it when I started out on Disco. I have to applaud the effort that has gone into it. It's very well laid out and lucid. I'll be pointing any new player I meet towards it and recommending they check it out. In fact I think Ill use it as a guide to what ships I should add to my organisation. I like the idea of a repair ship and AT purely for RP purposes.

If you'll forgive a little philosophising, I should point out that the co-operative spirit also allows things like organised genocide and industrial scale killing to happen, so balance in all things. Independence is also one of our greatest virtues. Perhaps the ideal is kind of co-operative independence? BUT I will say that the very vulnerable in all walks of life all share the same problem, which is isolation.

Freedom of speech is never an absolute legally, not where there is slander or libel or where it is used to incite immediate violence and confrontation. And, strangely enough, when people "blaspheme" or "swear". (that new book by Stephen Pinker "The Stuff of Thought" is very good on this). Folks, I work teaching the barely literate to read and write. Some of you are abusing your gift. Now be nice and exercise a little restraint.
