Survey done. Everything important or meaningful for this discussion has been said above, but I'll still allow myself for a personal comment.
I've bounced back to Disco several times over the last 10 years - because it has enthralling potential. But I've never seen it bloom back to glory. If this could ever happen, this server could still be great.
It's barely a role-playing server/game anymore outside of the forums. The standard for that needs to be raised. Don't punish the lolwut cretins, school them, show them the other kind of fun to be had other than farming NPCs and /1/2ing. Also, without a fresh approach and shedding the cliqueness every single attempt to improve will fizzle out just like all the other times before.
Changes would have to be substantial. Or it will just keep being a rotting internet dungeon.
Not sure I can say I play anymore but I filled out the survey with the reasons I gave up trying to come back last year, and yet find myself continually wanting to come back.
Thank you Hokan for opening up this dialogue for the community to voice their concerns. I know Discovery can be an incredible place because it was when I played back from 2007-12. Many of the changes since then have been fantastic, but many not.
[17:45:39] Wolfs Ghost (Murphy): Tom, you have problems. Go kill yourself.
[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.
[14:22:56] Prarabdh Thakur: KILL HIM WITH A SHEEP.
[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.
[11:32:18] Warspite: Thank you for being so awesome Tom. <3
[18:17:36] Metano: I love you tomtom
[20:06:24] Warspite: I will seriously give you epic head.

RP quality has tanked ingame the hardest, but it's pretty painful on the forums sometimes
The glacial development of the story. Story stonewalling the decisions of collective leaders of official factions because it doesn't meet THE VISION
Unmoderated ingame actions by certain groups who only do the barest amount of roleplay as an excuse to drop their entire fleet on you, then complain about everyone else on the forums/discord
Certain hypocritical moderators and cliques of friends who brigade against people they dislike/disagree with them, using the tried-and-true tactic of just calling them toxic over and over until people stop criticizing them, letting them get away with more nonsense. Ironically, the ol Heavy Decision might have been more accurate than we thought.
Certain 'new' players that attack other factions, usually with made up stories and experiences, then claiming innocence and say they have discovery's best interests in mind.
The duality of Liberty being called a house with plot armor, while time and time again getting shafted in every war and event outcome, and story development in general
The multi-year campaign to entirely ignore developing the Nomads, mostly balance and weaponry wise, but with a bit of story as well. It's been how many years, and nomads still don't have their own brand of gunboat pulse, no missiles on any caps that aren't entirely broken copy/pastes of the humans, effects and all, no bomber heavy weapons (the nomads basically missed the entirety of the bomber balance pass besides torpedo weapons and the shield), their actually worse fighter missiles (ammo counts, damage, tracking, etc)
The 'friendly community' mindset that leads to targeting 'toxic' veteran players who've been here for a decade or more, who have had to watch the community decline based on the poor decisions of the staff, then seeing the actions repeated over and over.
I could probably go on but I'm not going to.
The only reason I still play is to keep my factions from going under.
Survey filled.
I just came back from a long hiatus, so some of my replies might not be as relevant as from those who are more up to date.
On the other hand, the fact that I'm a returning player might also bring valuable point of view.
