..ehh i cant really vote as i think its a case by case thing but i agree with what titan said. Yes they should have as much authority if they can rp and respect others well. not sure if this should go as far as making laws/rules and such

The main issue i see is that the factionized players probably dont know the indys and are asumming the worst possible thing might happen if people they dont know get to much power... or something along that line.

Maybe some people had bad experiences with independents? I wouldnt know as i dont know everyone on the server.

my 2cents

Ive had enough of disco for now. I might be back at the next mod release.

Quote:I do write up bio's. I am working on The Retriever, Jeffrey and then another project for the ESS. I just do not have the time, and I do not want my game-play to be penalised for it, or me to have to wait to only fly my ship after I post my biography and have it ratified.

Interesting. So, you, as an alternate account, have time to work your primary account, argue endlessly on this account, and you don't have time to conform to a few regulations as you write up bios.

Quote:This poll is about whether indies can enforce the laws of the official faction as if they were part of the faction itself.

I disagree. The poll asks:

Quote:Do Independents have the same authority as their respective Official faction (such as Liberty and Order)?

It includes all of a factions authority; the power to declare war, the power to impose tariffs, the power to write laws, etc. Enforcing is a given; creating is not. Even I, when I was being my powerhungry self with my independent Fantasia in my pre-101st days I didn't presume to write entirely new laws. I proposed numerous motions and waited for endorsement or rejection from the 101st and, to a lesser extent, RoS, (which was in its juvenile stage at that point, a gawky import that was still finding itself), but I never tried to write entirely new laws and enforce them on my own; that would be ridiculous. A single individual can't command that kind of power, only an organized policymaking force. I had pull and sway within the Outcasts back then, but I was in no way running my own little show. Governmental power was with the factions, and there it should stay.

While I think that the factions should be the ones making the laws and regulations, I think that indies should still be able to enforce those regulations. Obviously, the factions will want to avoid anyone being to... overenthusiastic... but co-operation is always best.

Did anyone actually read Baltar's edit before posting? Seriously people, read, its not a hard thing.

Quote:EDIT: Not talking about indies creating, modifying or removing laws. I'm only speaking of indies having the same authority to "enforce" the laws of the officially recognized faction.

@ Titan: Thank you sir ... very well written. Relationship between indies and the faction itself should be pretty clear. What is less clear is the relationship between the indies and those who have ID's not related to the faction ... such as a Liberty ID'd character related to a Bounty Hunter ID'd character. The Bounty Hunter should recognize the Liberty Navy ID'd character as authoritative in Liberty space ... not the other way around.

Um ... what?

@ Epyon the Bored: From here you are arguing semantics. We can analyze each word and syllable and never answer the question.

Thank you Titan ... I don't think Epy saw that edit.

Considering I might've sort of flamed you in another thread, don't think you should be thanking me, makes me feel guilty and weird:P Not something I feel usually, anyway, about the indie situation, yes the dominant "NPC" faction should have rule in their territory, such as LSF and Navy factions having rule in Liberty, and that means both indies and factions. Now considering LN as an official faction, generally has more high ranking people in it than most indies are, same for LSF, we make the laws, during this transition from indie to a faction, one somehow forgets one really simple fact...we were all indies once. We all started once, we all didn't know the rules once. But I won't say one side is right and one isn't, the indies do their fair share of mishaps as do the factions. The lack of communication and respect on both sides is...alarming to say the least, I've seen both sides of the picture and I can say that...the way people judge each other, based off a game, in fact, two distinct factions in a game is horrible. One shouldn't have to worry about getting in one camp or another camp in a bloody game. Here you have to take your pick basically as soon as you start playing, will you get on the "good" or the "bad" side, and you get both some benefits and some bad things with each choice. And that shouldn't happen. There's a nice quote saying..."Can't we all just...get along?".

no.

Factions applied to become who they are, they paid, they set up roles and everything.
I do think that indies should work with the factions to come with common agreements, but ultimatly the factions need to lead.

@ Titan:

I argue the subject at hand ... not the person. I may agree with people on issues in a post here and there and then go off the handle in yet another post. Its really about the topic ... and I tend to get passionate with my arguments.

Please don't take my arguments personal ... I'm doing everything I can to avoid attacking the person. It does happen from time to time ... but I don't like to go that route.

Oh ... there's actually four sides ... good, bad, neutral and loner. We could have a long discussion on these ... would involve D&D terminology and would be in a different section of the forum.

@ SwissScorch: Not arguing who is in charge ... I'm just asking if indies have the right to "enforce" the laws the owning faction created.

Touche (Does not let me write the bloody symbol on the e for some reason...) , anyway, no idea what more to add here, need more input from people to form a response, I've pretty much said how I stand about this.

Also, Swiss, that's a very..very narrow view. In fact, this is part of the "horrible" behavior I mentioned. Sure they paid, sure they're "above" the indies so to speak. Does that mean they need to treat them as they do?

Oh jeez, give me a freekin break.

Any single player is a single player, faction or not, and factions are a minority on the server but are too greedy to share.

The real issue is the factions that only fight five to one, that have no respect for other players, that think they are better than everyone else.

The factions are destroying this server, if they had their way it would be faction only.
