' Wrote:Ah, that simplifies things a lot. Since my faction experience is with combat groups, I've always worked on the basis of "go where your NPCs go, and nowhere else". If trade factions have a free reign over allied space then it becomes a lot simpler, now all we have to worry about is the profitability of the new routes, cheers for clearing that up Xoria :)
Yeah I know that corp traders can go to their house borderworlds and neighbouring systems. But for example if you're a Republican trader, then from my previous understanding you can't participate in trade routes between say Leeds and New York (let's ignore the Liberty-Rheinland trade thing and assume this is vanilla). However if as Xoria says corp traders can go pretty much anywhere so long as they can handle attacks by hostiles, then that problem goes away.
EDIT: I don't diamond run myself. I just think that the assumption that money-making trading (as opposed to mining Water in Magellan which might be excellent RP but isn't going to get you anywhere fast) is something to be stopped ignores the reality that a lot of the wonderful RP we have here relies on the ability to spend an hour or two on a trader and raise the money to maintain your bomber/whatever.
Well, there is also political responsibility ties to a faction. If someone thinks it is a good idea to move Engine Components under a Gateway ID, Republican might get a little upset, because that's a Republican contract, not a Gateway contract. That might seem a little restricting, but, that's all part of the RP tied to a trader faction. Because of this RP, it'll be a little harder to trade silently, which is good...
But, that is how I view Trader faction RP...

Aye?
Well - not really. You haul a load for BMM, buy their ID. You haul a load for Dauman, sell the BMM ID and buy the Dauman one. Not a whole lot of difference between 'independant' truck drivers today and those guys - you'll see the big rigs going down the highway with their 'Leased to Roadway' or whatever company signs on the door. Your log book and bill of lading is still going to reflect WHO you're hauling the cargo for.
Actually, though, the phrase 'completely neutral trader' is an oxymoron.
:secret:You may be a 'freelancer', but you're still going to not like the pirates.

Eh, well I don't see trading out your ID for every job a very good way to convey your character's RP. If you've got a BMM ID, someone seeing you will immediately think you work for BMM. On top of that, I see the corp's actual ID as something their real workers and members carry, not just some random hauler. The Freelancer ID conveys the character much better, and makes more RP sense to me than trading IDs every other day. That's just me though.
And obviously not neutral to pirates. I only mean to the corps.
My trader's been tagged and IDed Bowex for a very long time now, so this doesn't affect me one whit. I can't wait for the new trade routes, though. Might mean more action in Bretonia.
Having a few family members who have chosen that profession, it's more than you think. There are actual owner/operators who own the whole truck, not just the tractor.
For me its sounds like the Freelancer tag is going to be the way to go, If I decide later to join a shipper faction , then maybe.

Well yes, you could do that but you'll still suffer the ingame RP consequences of doing that anyway. For example, you decide to switch to a Republican Shipping ID and hauling goods from Rheinland to Liberty (for whatever reason, its just an example). You come across Unioners. Your protestations of being a Freelancer won't fly with them, and they'll blow you away. If you were carrying a Freelancer ID, they might have only taxed you or possibly even let you past. But you'll be dead on sight with a Republican ID. Sure, you can haul less cargo with a Freelancer ID, but at least pirates will be less inclined to blow you away on sight.

Yeah but the Freelancer ID will only allow (from memory) up to 3600 cargo space. Which is fine if you're RPing a trader for its own sake, but not so good if you're trading to fund other characters.
No longer active online due to a dwindling amount of non-PvP (trading, pirating, mining, etc.) fun in the new version.

I do fine in the Large Transport (2000 unit) that I fly. You just have to look a little harder to figure out what the most bang for your buck will be, plus we will have to wait and see what the new economy is going to look like.
Now I have another question, with these corporate shippers having the larger transports ( and smaller ones) are more people going to start flying as COMPANY escort pilots? I see a lot of rp and pvp potential there, could be fun.......
