' Wrote:I can totally relate to the misunderstanding of why Pirates have capitol ships. I've just got on with the game and accepted that times have changed. You won't see me in a Capitol ship these days since that's not what i think FL's about, however they can be a great RP contribution and experience when it comes to organised events. I've always preffered the idea of being a fighter pilot, even if i'm not exceedingly good at it.
I believe pirates can vary their ship types and stick within RP suggested ships. An example of somthing i would concider "not right" (not exactly oorp) would be a hacker flying a Barghest. These days players seem to go for the guns and upgrades alot more than the experience. But some rules should be coming in in 4.85 that should bring a little more order to these sort of things.
Way to restate everything everyone else has already said in your own special way.
So I'll just rebut with this nice little statement everyone throws around: It's Freelancer, not Factionlancer.
From an RP view of it, think along these lines to simplify it:
Pirates in LFs, and even HFs, generally would be pirates that are either flying solo and have not yet gotten funding, or are part of a small group that can't get more powerful ships yet.
THEY would be pirating other LFs, HFs, and possibly freighters in groups.
Now, when you move on to VHFs, bombers and gunboats, you're looking at a player or group that has both prep, and funding.
THEY would be the ones going after larger targets such as transports and gunboats.
Some of the transports represent the pinnacle of shipping technology for some factions, so why wouldn't they be countered with the same for the faction pirating them?
Pirates in the more powerful ships would have had time to plan out their strategy, and would obviously want to overwhelm whoever they are attacking, thus the point of having more powerful ships. They're attacking industrial transports including some who represent corporations that defend themselves with personal armies, what would YOU bring to that kind of fight?
Small-time pirates wouldn't be able to take on that firepower and defensive capability, but an organized, funded group should be able to do it without any real problems. What THEY should have to worry about is having the defensive squads of that pilot's faction coming down on them. Edit: Not to mention any bounties that pilot puts out on them.
Still think that they're overpowered? Then why not fly with escorts and other transports in groups? That's half the point of having escorts that can be hired, not to mention any that your player faction, if you join one, can spare to help you.

All right gents, please let this thread die. i'm beginning to regret to even started it. I see some of your points but not all of them. and last night i had a lengthy private convo with a "pirate" who in 5 minutes explained to me the true reason why everyone and thier brother are either in a gunboat or a bomber.(shields) for that reason, go on doing what you do. enjoy Disco.
PS really quirked that hoodlum had to come on and say something about my posting style. seriously dude, was that really neccesarry? what does it hurt if i want to give some peeps thier time so that i don't forget anyone(like i prolly did here with the fast reply) but your the admin. so i'll respect your descision, though i do not agre with it

(sigh) never judge a book by it's cover mate.
Well ... I've always been told that when you're a new guy (even one who may know a lot) ... its best to sit back, listen and watch first ... then suggest changes.
Example: At work (wherever that might be) your old boss had a way he/she liked things done. Maybe it worked well and everyone understood their place. Then you get a new boss. New boss has a few options:
Option 1: Change everything to the way HE/SHE is used to doing it when he/she was at their old job. Everyone is not totally confused and no longer understands their role.
Option 2: Wait ... listen and watch how his/her team works and tweak things as he/she notices areas that can be improved ... at the same time avoiding making sweeping changes that would disrupt everyone on the team.
Option 3: Not contribute in any fashion ... let everything run as it is. Even stuff that could be improved upon would go untouched.
I hope you'd choose Option 2. Option 1 is a micro-manager and cares nothing for the rest of the community. Option 3 can improve areas that need improving but could care less whether they improve or not and thus alienates the rest of the community. Option 2 provides input as needed while not causing anyone to go into shock.

have you ever worked in a state job(cause option 1 is like thier first and only option) now time to play devil's advocate.
why did boss get fired first off? prolly he wasn't doing it right, or wasn't properly motivating his crew to do it right. lol, i just had to throw things in there.
yea i'm new, but if you read my posts, i asked and gave oppinions, i never wanted change, i asked questions on why people think they way they think. i also gave what i thought of the situation. and used the past info to show/validate my form of reasoning.
so i'll never hold it against a peep if he's new, if i feel his oppinion or ay of thinking is flawed, i'll go to great depths to show him, why i feel my oppinion or way of thinking is better, otherwise if his is better, i'll have no problem going with his.
