Are other transports going to be considered as generic as the a-train when having corp ships? eg. the contrans, my personal favorite.

I really love that ship and would hate to give it up. I have used it as a IC ship for some time with only a few guys whining about it.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

No and yes.

As a pirate i can say that the more trains there is the more fun with pirating them. Dont even think about lowering theyr numbers!

As a pilot of Atrain i can say that i bought it just because 5k cargo i dont care what guns it has or in what places are they mounted. Adding more ships with 5k cargo and diferent looks whould be greatest thing.

I whould buy most beautifull regardles of what stats it has...

And about making them acsesible only by coorporations is not realy smat... If someone wants to rp in Atrain they have all rights to do that. But there is more people who are using trains only for money and when they are trading for more than 5 hours 'RP' is not something they want to hear about or be forsed to do...

I never liked the a-train because everyone had them and I don't like the look. I use the Contrans because it was one of the ships I found a long time ago as a add on mod for vanilla. I liked (love all the scars in it) and it has enough firepower to defend itself a little. (ussually get me in more trouble then good though)

I think there are and more variety would be great. I disagree with the truck analogy though. I always took the Transport series as the equivalent of the modern truck. The Transport being the average one and the Large Transport the top of the line model. Anyone could go out and buy them, but I see the Train series as the equivalent of, well, freight trains.

That all said, if they were restricted to corporate IDs, where's the problem? Sure, it'll take a couple minutes more to get the right tag and ID, but then all the other factions who have specific corporate enemies have more potential for RP.

this is being dealt with in 4.85. The Generic Trader ID (Now called an Independent Trader ID) no longer allows ships past like... 3200 cargo, or something like that. Even Zoner ID's dont allow past around 3800. Only Corporation ID's will allow Atrains.

Pointless.
I have always been exclusively a trader here and in every mod I've ever played. If you make the train inaccessible then whichever is the largest cargo hold ship available will be the one everybody has and this argument comes back around again.

What if I were to say that I'm sick of everyone always having the highest available hit-pointed fighter, or always have the best armor upgrade. what about that everyone always settles into the exact same weapons setup that happens to deal the most damage?

Why is it that us traders are always the recipient of disproportionate scrutiny? The money made is the fuel for the engine of roleplay.
Now, if the player only runs the mega-money routes and never roleplays his trader, the THAT"S what they should be sanctioned for, but sweeping changes that treat every trader as though they are guilty of this is, frankly, BS!

Some people play their Roleplay. Redline Inc IS a corporation and I WILL fly a train if I so desire. If the new version prevents that, then this mod loses a dedicated roleplayer because of (as always kills every mod) reactionary rule-making on the part of the modders.

Don't send this Mod down this road to death. Why is this how it invariably goes with FL mods? Why can't people just play the stinking game without crapping it up with "worried about what he's doing" rules. They are NEVER correct in their analysis, ALWAYS overly burdensome to people who are innocent of the "crime" they intend to correct and WITHOUT EXCEPTION have undesired consequences.

God man, just let people play the friggin' game!

There needs to be an 'other' option on Question 2.

Are there too many Atrains? Yes, absolutely. Will more 5k transports solve that? Yes and no. We might get less Atrains, we might not. But even if we do, it'll just be a large majority of Atrain pilots moving to whatever 5k transport has the most armor and firepower. It'll just be a transfer of Atrain spam to 'Xship' spam. So we'll solve the Atrain problem, only to have yet another one. What we need to do is give the Atrain a major disadvantage to go with its advantage. The more cargo it has, the weaker it should be. The Whale has 1 turret, but 4,200 cargo.. Why does the Atrain have 800 more cargo, more armor, and 6 guns? Its better in every way, except maybe looks and the ease of flying, since its smaller.

i can live with that.

still would be cool to see some faction specific transports. just to mix it up visually, same stats/different looks.

well a lot of players do use faction specific transports. Hell, in the past week I've seen probably a dozen different percheron transports flying around kusari... OORP, yes, but at least they're not trains!

I've always used the firefly personally. I also see quite a few kishiro/samura traders now who use the container transport or kusari transport. A lot more smugglers are using the pirate trans, pirate train, and borderworlds trans as well.

Hopefully we'll have faction specific cargo pods available for the transport/train line in 4.85 too =P

@Dab
The Whale is 4700 cargo, 1 class3 fighter turret, and costs ~65m
The Adv. Train has 5000 cargo, 6 class 7 transport turrets, and costs ~110m

That's the supposed downfall, the price. bullhonky. Price is not a deterant, only a goal. Look at the caps and the cap8. battleships cost an arm, a leg, your right eye, and left unmentionable fully equipped, and they're still everywhere.

something ELSE needs to be done.

@redline. Shh. No one is harping on the traders. It was a simple question with no malicious intent. And believe me, there isn't a single group getting "disproportionate scrutiny". Battleship pilots, Independants, Pirates, bomber pilots, pretty much anyone will tell you they've received some sort of bashing at the hands of the community.

It's not the world against you. These "sweeping changes" are meant to improve the overall RP by providing factions and groups with in-RP enemies, and at the same time offering the traders who are now tagged and ID'd corporate traders, some more fun and RP opportunities.
