The Oucast-Nomad thing is interesting here. Outcasts worship the Nomads and they seem to be getting along a little too well for most people's taste. So naturally that's another reason for the Order and Corsairs to have an alliance, common enemies, in this case, two who have a close relationship.
The Talon... all I can say is that I remember someone submitting a new model for it.
It's kind of ironic, as people start thinking about the Corsair/Order alliance, and wondering if it's unnecessary/ridiculous, the Outcasts and Nomads become chummy and give the alliance a reason to exist.
Also: Oi Swiss you ain't dev, you're tester, get rid of that userbar!:P
As a trader the brings food to Crete almost every day, i will trow in my 5 cent.
The distibution of Arty from Crete is a nice way to fly from Crete if it was not tohere i would have to fly Empty. Now dont get me wrong i would still fly Food and Pharma to Crete.
But if you look at it Order fight Nomads those Alien Brains that control a ship they also fight BountyHunters.
Corsairs do the same so is a Alliance betwene those 2 that odd, we see Cast working with Nomad and altru they have not yet made a official alliance goe take a guess. But within 4:84 its all fits
Corsairs+Order VS Outcast+Nomads= enemyes.
Now Outcast and Order and Corsairs have Bounty Hunters as Foes. Do that mean that Outcast and Corsairs will team up and make a alliance against Bounty Hunters.
Now Corsairs sells the Arty that Order let them to that way the Order can control the Arty marked.
Look at the routes from Gamma. You actually can go to every part of Sirius. Order is a kinda Godfather in the artyfact trade, Weather you like it or nor.
I am not a native English Speaker, so i make grammar errors.
But it annoys me when people make silly comments about that... especially brits who for the most part can't speak their own language let alone anyone elses!

edit: and it's called the dev. team, not the test team so meh'! lol
So can we all like... agree on Order + Corsairs v. Outcasts + Nomads is a viable reason for the canon alliance which we can't change even if we all wanted to?
Order, with nobody but themselves. I'd say neutral to criminals in general; theres no real reason for priates to attack a powerful organisation that could steal military warships from Liberty itself. Beside, they do have one common enemy.
Corsair, with hog, farm, and I think thats it.
OC with the bunch of petty criminals they have. And let them have their secret cult of the nomad.
Secrets don't stay secret forever, especially when Keepers and Outcasts raid Gamma together. Wishful thinking to assume such an alliance'll just stay hidden.
*scratches head* - If you read the posts in this thread, its obvious that your eyes glazed over half way through.
I never thought the Order were powerful. Intelligent, sure. Technologically superior, yeah. Powerful? I dont think so. The whole reason that the Order recruits from many different walks of life is because its manpower is comparatively small.
So your conclusion is a simple one, as you say. Just, to obtain that conclusion, you have to be looking at the big issue (that this is) with a microscope.
And let's not forget, the Order is allied with not only the Corsairs, but Zoners and Hogosha too, which I'm sure both have their questions. Especially the Hogosha. Who even plays them? In my like 2 years in the Order I have never seen a Hogosha player that I can remember. Zoner I think makes more sence.
Is the Order-Corsair alliance actually Freelancer canon? I don't recall, but I know they were pretty chummy with all sorts of Corsair enemies in SP. If anything they should be neutral to most.
As far as needing ships to fight back the nomads and/or survive in the Omicrons, the Order has been doing that for quite some time without a lot of help. The nomad presence (at least in the form of dangerous ships flying around) would have been reduced after the hypergate sucked most of them elsewhere/sucked their power supply dry.
I might understand a mutual trade pact or somesuch, but not an alliance.
I will say that the Hogosha alliance makes even less sense.
Artifacts arent going to cause more problems, the order more likely studies artifacts obtained from the corsairs to improve their own technology and give them an edge against alien threats. Remember, it was an artifact that let us win the first nomad war.
The alliance was created out of necessity, however. The Order was being pummeled by nomads, wild, liberty navy, LSF, and the bounty hunter's guild... and going back to the single player campaign, the order is a -very- small group, it isnt a full sized military.
So, the order was looking for allies pretty desperately to save themselves. There were few options in that area of space - the zoners were abundant, but wouldnt help them fight off liberty or BHG ships. The corsairs were the only large faction in the omicron systems on that side of sirius (outcasts were on the opposite side), and the corsairs had two things the order needed most: Lots of construction resources (check out all the mining areas around gamma) and large shipyards which could produce more combat vessels for the order.
The corsairs also had skilled pilots which could join the order and fight against it's enemies - these pilots had been fighting the outcasts for hundreds of years now.
So, the deal was pretty simple in the end - the order went to the corsairs and said "We'll give you some of this awesome advanced technology we have. In exchange, we want some of your resources, access to your shipyards, and your help against the BHG and nomads".
Now, the corsairs had already been fighting the nomads, since they were both occupying the same area of space, so they had no objections. They were gaining a huge advantage against the outcasts by using Order technology, and they even gained their first real capital ship (the osiris class was being used by corsairs before their own capships were developed).
Nowdays, the alliance isnt quite as strong in my opinion. The Order has expanded, it has many more personnel than it used to, we have our own shipyards within omicron 100 as well as a much larger fleet and more advanced technology. We're able to stand against our enemies without much help from our allies - so the corsair alliance is becoming more of a tradition than an actual reliance on one another. The corsairs rarely help us out when it comes to fighting nomads or liberty, and we dont exactly trust them much anymore.
