next to a battleship - a fighter is tiny.. - but from 1000 miles away, there s no difference in both sometimes - shape and size.
in space - a battleship hasn t got a mass that affects it more than a fighter when it comes to gravity. - so its only the mass. - while the force to move the mass need to be unproportinonally larger than on a fight - it doesn t mean its impossible.
furthermore - size is nothing. - we assume that every race is human sized. - but what about smaller races that build battleships that are smaller t han human fighters. - what about l arger races that build fighters larger than human battleships. ..
of course - thats just playing around with the theory. in disco - battleships have no thrusters cause of BALANCE - and thats all about it.
if we take a startrek aproch we have main engines(impulse)and we have thrusters called REACTION CONTROL SYSTEMS AKA "rcs" they are needed for undocking holding station quick evasion tactics(which is possable in space) ectra ectra theres tiny ones but they expell like 15,0000 newtons of exaust combined so mabye model the thrusters like in trek let them have quick last minute evasion but like no "top end" speed
wont happen but id figure id throw my two cents in
because the cruiser has thrusters - and those cruisers ( 2 battlecruisers ) that have no thruster have the same speed as battleships.
that means - that a cruiser can thrust to some 139 - and has the freedom to E-kill / drift, which is a great tactical advantage - for those cruisers that accumulate most weapons in the front of their ships ( BHG for example )
the liberty and the IMG battlecruiser have an impulse speed of 90 ( instead of 80 ) - and can keep the distance to the larger and more powerful battleships. - at the same time ( and when they play their cards correctly ) - they can kite the battleship and fire from a long distance. - at that time, their MUCH smaller size will compensate their lower armour, while at the same time, their weapons will have a much greater chance to hit on the larger battleships.
so - thrusterless battlecruisers are basicly cheaper and smaller battleships; battlecruisers with thrusters are basicly larger and more expensive cruisers.
battlecruiser is a poor mans battleship... and you can put thrusters on a BS and get 1.5 extra speed... hardly something worth having...

I'd just like it noted that, logically thinking, it is SPACE. There is no friction whatsoever. Thrusters would require very little energy.
However, going by that logic we wouldn't be limited to 350 m/s in cruise. It all comes down to balance. If you don't like being big, fat and slow, fly a fighter/bomber like the average person.
They made that system so people could pvp, practice, whatever... but they put it in the fracking middle of sirius, and on top of that in the middle of a system owned by a faction thats hostile to like, everyone.
Sorry, but I'm not going to fly through the npc spam of alaska, then try to get past the liberty navy capwhores, just to go die in connecticut =P
